Duasteride-Last Word on Hair Loss?

Done my reading on Proscar, Adovart - their abilities, limitations and sides - here and elsewhere.

Never balded.Not balding currently.
MP baldness genes present though.

Let me summarize the multitude of solutions offered FOR HAIR LOSS ON AAS:

  1. “Deal with it …shave and go bald.”
  2. “Reducatse inhibitors (like Proscar) work only work with Test and its derivatives Methyltest and Halotest not with Deca or Nortest”
  3. “Proscar may give you perm loss of sex drive.”
  4. “Dutasteride’s 2nd gen claims of tissue (non)selectivity. Its non specific for isotype unlike Fina (which hits type-2 isozyme of 5-alpha reductase) hence it inhibits DHT conv in scalp, liver, prostate and skin. However enuff Test will compensate for this as well. So hair shall fall”
  5. Brock Strasser’s Hair Keeper Stacks
  6. “Touch AAS and you DO lose hair so go to 1)”

For anyone looking at “hair loss” threads, there you go I saved you time.

Haven gotten that off my chest, has someone, you know, gone from a Leno head of hair to a Letterman after a cycle or two of Test?

I’ve never heard that anywhere and it certainly doesn’t fit with my experience. I used finasteride for a year or so in the past (and I used it at the begining of my current cycle before switching to dutasteride) and while I did notice a little “flatening” of libido while on, everything recovered within not too long after cessation of it.

My loads per day score hasn’t dropped significantly since I was 19 or so, before I used it.

Do you have any references for that claim?

the book i own plays down the sides associated with just abt any aas. (llewellyn’s anabolics '06 - no mention of deca-dick anywhere …for cryin out loud!!!)

i ran a search earlier today and found someone talking about nut size and sex drive not returning to pre-diminished levels.

so you followed up Proscar with dutasteride…huh?

WAS IT PLANNED? or you just had to switch from fina?

the book says:
“avodart essentially finishes off what was started with finasteride. as a selective type-2 inhibitor, finasteride is effectiv at lowering DHT levels in the scalp but it does not work as well for reducing oily skin and acne. Avodart on the other hand is effectiv at reducing andro sides across the board.”

My shedding was unacceptable while on Test with finasteride. Finasteride only lowers DHT levels by around 60% while dutasteride lowers DHT levels by around 90% (after two weeks, granted). I decided that the extra 30% would be helpful, especially considering that my test levels are probably around ten times normal right now. That said, my expectations weren’t unrealisticly high. Test itself still binds to the AR just fine after all.

As for the person talking about nut size and function not returning to normal, was this a post on a message board or an article? If it was the former then there’s a decent chance it was an AAS user who botched PCT or else an aging guy who took finsteride for long enough for other unrelated issues to accumulate without noticing. Am I right?

Androgen sensitivity in the scalp is genetic.

Permanent loss of sex drive? Wow. That’s scary shit.

What about using Nizoral or Nioxin? Topical seems better than orals for prevention - if they do work.

its on this board. anyway no way to find out if the guy was 19 or 47.

jacenty had a point there…we all know genes do play a huge role…but extraneous factors do too.

although i never balded or thinned, my hair started (prematurely) greying when I was 20-21 and I thought I was damned.

but a steady high-red-meat diet did wonders for me and the pic above is the testimony.

if diet alone resulted in such dramatic changes, one cant discount the effects of AAS…these are hormones for Pete sakes which have huge governing power over lots of things.

i had my test clocked and it stands at a measly 324 ng/dl (serum)
Thyroid T3 : 1.52 NG/ML
T4 : 8.67 MU G/ ML
TSH : 2.34 MU U/ML

i dunno if this low test has something to do with my healthy head of hair.

I’ve taken finasteride for five months now with no changes in sexual functioning or libido.

were you thinning to begin with or was it precautionary?

My experience with using dutasteride on and off for the past 3 years is very similar in that I have a subtle decrease in libido while on. The sex drive returns completely and quickly after stopping. I don’t think there’s any way using dutasteride or finasteride would cause permanent changes in your libido.

For me two avodart a day regrows hair I had lost while one a day maintains/prevents new loss.

Like TC, I’m taking it as a precaution. Both grandparents were/are quite bald. I haven’t noticed any side effects at all and it is available for cheap.

alright then…dutasteride it is.

thank you all.
