Dragonball/Z Thread

I used to have a subscription to DB, the small paperback comics, which were just a compilation of sevearal months of the weekly DB strip in Jump. Better than the show, because the art was consistant and they didn’t stretch out scenes forever like the show.

I think why GT sucked was because it was never a comic. It was like they wrote it as they went along. And since it wasn’t in comic form in Japan that pretty much sealed GT’s fate. The fate to suck and be totally disregarded.

I don’t think there is a person in Japan who doesn’t know DB. Or Goku’s voice actor.

GT isn’t canon, so we can discount it from the get go. And Goku’s Japanese voice actor is a lady. I think she’s currently in her early 50’s.

To Otoko:

How big is DBZ in japan over there? The last DB related show was on in 96, so how is the popularity holding up?

What is Dragonball Z?

…You’re joking right?

Love that show, probably one of the reasons i started working out, to look like one of them.

I watched the show all the time after school. I do agree though, GT was crap. I still watch some of the reruns on Cartoon Network of the older shows. I think they stopped playing GT altogether.

Of course not, have you ever known me to joke on these forums?

Anyway, what do you guys think about the Dragonball movie set to be released next year? I just hope they don’t make it too corny. There’s a lot of silliness in Dragonball that won’t carry over too well in a live action movie. Hopefully, it will do well enough so they can get to making the DBZ movies. I think I read that they want to do three movies total.

I saw the guy they chose as Goku and I saw him with Goku’s hair. Pathetic. I saw Chi Chi and Bulma, they’ll be fine. If they go into the Freeza, Cell, and Buu saga, they will have a hard time. The later the saga, the more energy beams they used. CGI isn’t good enough to show a Big Bang Attack or Special Beam Cannon.

Fist of the North Star is awesome too.

Everything from the 80s is.

DBZ is pretty much the reason I started lifting.

I’ll have to go with Piccolo as my favorite character as well. . .

And yet you post a pic of Kakkarot/Goku. No biggie.

I used to have a poster of the whole DBZ crew in my Basement where the weights are. I would stare at it in between sets for inspiration. I actually saw the movies in subtitles first, The Cooler saga got me hooked.

I have a couple DBZ t-shirts still lying around. My favorite character was Goku and Trunks.

Here is some fuel to the fire: Who wins in a fight between,

Cell Saga Goku, against Superman

Or

Hulk vs Majin Vegeta

Goku vs Superman

Fighting Skills: Goku. Hands down.

Flying: Tie.

Strength: Superman, but the it would still be close.

Speed: Goku.

Energy Manipulation: Goku, but that heat vision is probably hellishly strong.

My vote: Goku.

Majin Vegeta vs Hulk

Fighting Skills: Vegeta, no questions asked.

Speed: Vegeta.

Toughness: Hulk.

Strength: Hulk, but Vegeta could hang with him.

Energy manipulation: Vegeta.

My vote: Vegeta, unless he tries to trade blow for blow. Blow for Blow, Hulk wins.

Reasons I think the DBZ crew would win: By the Cell saga, the characters can blow up planets. They all have super-strength, and EXTREMELY fast. Its as if they teleport when they fight. Every character started off as either a soldier or a martial artists. They know how to fight.

I agree with your assesment, although I think Goku is a bit stronger than Superman. It seems the further the DBZ series got the farther away they came from martial arts. Soon it became my energy blast vs your energy blast. Superman and Hulk would be vaporized.

Their speed is unmatched and Goku can travel Galaxy to Galaxy with a thought. I actually think maybe the Silver Surfer or Gladiator(Shi’ar guard) would be a better match, for Goku and Vegeta.

The memories

GT wasn’t crap. GT decided to take a look at vulnerability/durability at extreme power levels…something that was taken for granted throughout DB and DBZ.

It was weird to see Goku (at a power level of several billion) need to avoid getting cut by a clock-face. The only other time we faced ths was when characters used a Kienzan on a more powerful character.

Don;t mix things up. YOu have initial schuster and siegel superman, pre-crisis superman, post-crisis, superman prime, superman 1 million, JLA superman, and the television version. If you want to consider a good battle:

[SSJ4 Gogeta] VS [Superman prime] VS [Thanos with heart of infinite].

Also, in the different universes, the implication of power and implied speed, strength and vulnerability are very very different. So don;t assume that the Dragonfist would be as effective against a limit enraged hulk (it probably would, but food for thought) as it was against android 17.

I wanted to give Superman the strength because he tends to hold back so he doesn’t hurt anyone. But even then, Goku is no weak hombre. I still think physically, supes would be stronger. But due to his power level, Goku’s body oozes power like the other Z fighters.

Silver Surfer vs Goku: Silver Surfer. Because with his power cosmic, he could probably shape Goku’s energy into anything he wants. Silver is supposed to be extremely powerful.

Fighting Skills: Goku when he was 12 would mop the floor with Silver.

Here’s one for you:

Cell(Final Form cell) vs the X-men(90’s tv series line up).
