So, are we pro/anti assisted suicide for mentally coherent people, and why?
Let’s hear it.

Pro.
Your life, your right to end it if you see fit.
Let’s see… Government in most states can legally take a life under certain circumstances, they can draft a person into the military and send them on a suicide mission under threat of death, but it’s illegal for an individual to kill themselves with or without assistance in most places.
There’s nothing more personal than this and I find it disturbing that the various levels of government feel the right, let alone the need, to intervene.
anyone who opposes the right to die is a stupid asshole… only religious fuckjobs and mental health nazis deny the concept of rational suicide… frankly it shouldn’t even be limited to terminal cases… anyone who is severely disabled should have this option
Seems like you guys have this one covered already. The government shouldn’t have any more say in how I die than in how I live. Maybe they’ll allow this guy to do his job after they create a special “suicide tax”.
Wow, sanctity of life sure flies out the window once you exit the womb.

Hey maybe we better start with the repealing of motorcycle helmet laws And seat belt laws. Then there are prostitution laws. Can a woman do what she wants with her own body? No I guess not. And how about the drug laws? It’s your body but you can’t put what the government deems to be illegal in it.

You are absolutely right. Laws should not have to protect people from their own stupid behavior. What’s next, banning free-fall parachuting or rock-climbing. The government has no business in my life. If I want to smoke pot–its my body.
The problem with laws that restrict individual liberty is that there is no consistency with reckless behavior. I can go out and drink a case of beer which is just as stupid as riding a motorcycle with no helmet (this is legal in a few states including MN where I live).
Life is for living not obeying stupid laws. There is a difference between an activity that is destructive to my own person and one that is destructive to someone else.

You forgot abortion is legal murder of an underdeveloped fetus.
Make it clear, though, that assisted suicide is for the terminally ill, not some depressed teenager.
The whole “suicide is illegal” thing is silly. It’s hardly ever tried, as the prosecution is more interested in the “perpetrator’s” mental health, not some stuffy law. Wow. Did I just stand up for “The Law?” I must not be feeling well today.

With that logic suicide would be legal. You better think again.[/quote]
Suicide should be legal. Besides, what would the punishment for it be?

Okay…you guys start with those laws. when you’re done with the trivial matters that the government prohibits you from doing then you can start on the assisted suicide laws.

I agree that those laws are unconstitutional and should be repealed.

Death penalty for attempted suicide.

I disagree on the abortion point. Abortion is removing a fetus from a womans body, terminating a pregnancy. The death of the fetus is a direct result, yes, but is not the reason for the operation.

Kind of like getting out of school suspension for cutting class?

No. Then you still get the same end result.
I say torture.

There’s only one state that doesn’t require the use of either:
New Hampshire. Live free or die.
