Don’t trust tGFH (CKD-EPI) test if you are a bodybuilder like me, get eGFR (Cystatin C) test

I am an avid bodybuilder. Have been working out over 10 years cumulatively.

Recently I got tGFH (CKD-EPI) test meanwhile doing regular blood checking test. The test results indicated huge degrade in the health of Kidney functioning.

The test shown that my tGFH (CKD-EPI) is 51 mL/min/1.73m² (reference range: 80–120)

But since I found some info online I went ahead and get eGFR (Cystatin C) test as well.

Alhamdulillah my eGFR (Cystatin C) test result is 117 mL/min/1.73m² (reference range: above 60)

Alhamdulillah I don’t have any other indication of degraded Kidney functioning so I believe this also proves that.

According to the tests my Cystatin C is 0.78 mg/L (Reference range: 0.62–1.11 mg/L)

Also according to the previous test my Creatinine in blood is 1.62 mg/dL (High) (Reference range: 0.7–1.2 mg/dL)

I am not a medical expert so this is not a medical consultation. However keep this in mind if you get bad tGFH (CKD-EPI) results.

This could be high for many reasons. Taking creatine could raise this value. Training close to blood draw as well. High creatinine value will show diminished eGFR on your blood work as this is a calculated number. The cystatin C test if def accurate.
In your case i’d be looking into why creatinine levels are elevated.

I am doing a lot of workout and high protein diet. I think that is why.

That will do it. I backed off on my protien intake a bit recently. My last bloods had creatinine at 1.54 and i three weeks later after making some adjustments it’s down to 1.49. Gonna test again in a month. Also requesting cystatin C test. I don’t understand why this test is not more widely used especially for people with more muscle who train hard. Creatinine will always be higher than the rest of the population.
