Dog Lovers

One of my dogs and I recently had an argument.

She barks when the neighbors mow the lawn, the entire time.

I know she’s just giving me a warning but I don’t know how to communicate to her that it is ok.

So she was on the ARM of the couch and I told her “no”.

She cocked her head, raised her eybrows and barked at me, a quick, short bark.

I told her “no” again and she barked again, holding eye contact.

I told her “hush, you don’t talk back!”

And she barked again, a rolling bark that I swear matched my sentence syllable for syllable, and with a literally argumentative tone.

I told her “no!” again and sharper while pointing and she grumbled, jumped to the floor, looked at me one last time, barked and went under the couch.

It was bizarre. I swear some times if she could formulate words she would speak English fluently. She is hands down one of the smartest dogs I’ve ever had, and has demonstrated actual intelligence many times.

I have no doubt that if I put in the time working with her, she could be on one of those “Amazing Animals” shows.

One of our little Miniature Pinschers does this with me all the time. Not quite matching my syllables, but it’s like she has to have he last word all the time!

Dogs are funny. I swear mine is mocking me.

Frankie and Lily

I have a cat. He’s the most dog-like cat I’ve ever known though, quite different than your regular housecat. He’s a hybrid of a wildcat and a domestic cat.

He follows me around, works hard for my attention, and is surprisingly protective. He’s not even remotely picky – about the only thing he doesn’t eat is fruit; he’ll eat broccoli. If I’m ignoring him too much, he’ll start knocking glassware down, and pushing books off of shelves. But, like a wildcat, he has a certain amount of ferocity and strength that you don’t see in a typical 'pussy’cat.

Sadly, there’s no “cat lovers” thread.

Our dogs match, almost. Louis is a short hair. Max is long, though. I think I’ll always have a dachshund or two.

Good to see some T-Men with little dogs!

Is that supposed to be me on his back?

:frowning:

One more story and back to pics, this dog as a puppy would drop her favorite rubber chicken from the stairs, watch it fall, run down to find it and look back up, I’m certain she was learning spatial skills.

As a dog, she likes to go exploring in bushes on leash walks and I let her and the other one do so as it is their time to be dogs even if I have to untangle some leashes.

Well the argumentative dog can get so tangled up it is ridiculous chasing after squirrels, sparrows and lizards and then work her way intentionally out of the knot. It can be wrapped three times around a branch, over another and under and wrapped around the next and she will follow the line back, around, under et cetera until free.

She’s not following pressure either, even if I gave a tug for direction it would be negated by the leash being anchored around branches. She is clearly solving a puzzle requiring logical thought and beyond what most dogs can do. It’s fun to watch her exploring new things in general, you can see her curiosity like any dog but when other dogs get bored she is still checking out what ever it is, analyzing it, provoking it to do something if she can and remembering anything she finds useful to use in some way later. She’s a cool little dog.

“I hope if dogs ever take over the world, and they chose a king, they don’t just go by size, because I bet there are some Chihuahuas with some good ideas.”

There is at least one situation in which I would pick a cat over a dog.

She is 8 months now and trying to take over my bed.

When he matures, he’s gonna kick that dog’s ass in every way!

In Dog vs. Cheetah I would go with Cheetah too but in almost every other match up Cheetah is natures bitch.

Also, LOL at the Warthog vs. Rhino. (1:04)

Damn! That was a great video! SO many great match-ups.

The most badass (to me) was that lion standing down those gators!

I thought the tiger vs gator (4:30) was quite awesome too.
