Professor,
I think my failed attempts at being funny did not resonate with you. My post was a failed attempt at sarcasm on my part, and while humor is not my forte, offending you was certainly not my goal. If I pissed you off, I am sorry about that.
People like you (me included) not because you are black, but because you call it like it is. You say what needs to be said, and I recall the years of massive flamage you took for saying it. I stood by you back then, and I do it now. So again, my apologies for offending you.
As far as Nas, I find it offensive as well. I know it’s entertainment, but there has to be a line that one should not cross.

Thank you for the explanation. I have had sopme guys literally follow me around with that crap for over two years on this site so excuse me if I think someone following the same act is one of them.
I think Nas’ video was “artistic”. Is it one of my favorites? Hell no. Would I call that “blasphemy”? Actually, no. Blasphemy is calling the name of God in vain or pretending to literally be him or make fun of him for the sake of doing so. Using the symbol of the crucifixion as a metaphore for suffering is not blasphemy. It may be in “poor taste”…but that is why we live in America.
Professor,
I have seen you go through the war with your time here on TN. I been here since 2000, til my Federal vacation in 2004.
From some of the beefs people here had with you, you will never be low on Haterade, that’s for goddam sure.
You have earned every right to be pissed, no doubt about that.
I missed all that and it might explain some of Doc’s being even more prickly now then he was when we were hangin out here all the time. For the record, I don’t think Professor X hates or even dislikes white people. Never have.

Pretty much the way I see it. Same with Jamie Foxx’s comments, poor taste.
But at the same time I can see how people can get bent out of shape.

I would think with all the wild accusations , that some one would have introduced the term “intent”
Who knows the mind of this artist:}?

Blasphemy or not, I’m grateful that I live in a country where this sort of thing can be put on the wall, and the devout don’t respond by rioting, violating diplomatic immunity, and destroying cultural treasures.
If we can live and let live I’ll gladly do what I can to keep people from offending their faith. It’s better than the alternative of being lynched for simply not believing.
That being said, the crown of thorns is only a reference to Jesus if you choose to interpret it that way, otherwise it’s just a symbol of suffering and burden. Maybe people are offended by this because they’re looking to be offended.

lol, of course, this is America 2012. You aren’t important if your aren’t offended by something.
countingbeans wrote:<<< But at the same time I can see how people can get bent out of shape. Yes, I absolutely do understand what I just said and stand by it til I die.
Some pagan doing something like this is… what pagans do. Of course it’s offensive, but I it does not dishonor My God like those who butcher His Word in His name.

Billions of people worship worthless idols and worthless people every day. I don’t see this as anything different than the norm.
Take away the crown of thorns and it just looks like he’s about to draw the curtains over the presidency (or maybe it could look like he’s opening them, but that’s definitely not what he’s done).
The crown of thorns is just a symbol. It could never even begin to represent what Christ means to me. No collection of idols and symbols could ever represent what He means to me.
No one is worshiping the pict

Yeah, I know. I was just referring to the use of symbology to get a rise out of people. It’s like the little legs on the Darwin fish. Who cares? Anyone who thinks that little fish symbol represents Christ is in for some bad news, anyway. Same with the crown of thorns, the cross, and everything else people use to try and symbolize Him.

Personally I would rather not have any man compaired to Jesus (Obama, Lebron, Trump…whoever), especially with the crown of thorns it offends me on that level.
But this is America… and I should be allowed to be displayed.
When Nas did the same thing in that video years back with Puffy, did you feel the same emotion?
Not a big Nas or Puffy fan (more Afroman and DJ Quik) but after watching it…yea, it is a little offensive…but as I said before, in America they have every right to do it.

I had that exact thought.

Maybe the artist intended to offend people as a means of creating controversy/publicity and at the same time establishing his leftist cred.

What’s wrong with the new “baritone Barack, opera singing Obama” doll?

Evil? Dude, melodrama much? If this man is “evil” so was just about every president before…so why even make the distinction?

Basically this. unless a crown of thorns alone now equals “Jesus”, then there is no way you can label it “blasphemy”.
Everyone who wears a crown of thorns in a picture is literally trying to be Jesus Christ?

No, not that. The artist is intending to portray Obama as a Christ with outspread arms and a crown of thorns. To suggest that he just happens to be wearing a crown made out of thorns and there is no connection to Jesus is idiotic.
Blasphemy: “Blasphemy is the act of insulting or showing contempt or lack of reverence for a religious deity or the irreverence towards religious or holy persons or things.”
