Does anyone believe Luigi will spend time behind bars?

Sad that the truth is described as such.

I have a solution: complete separation of State and healthcare.

Legit question, that I don’t have a preconceived idea of or any data for: is there evidence from other countries that this improves the outcomes for the population at large?

Just to caveat this isn’t me joining in with the main discussion, the killing of the exec was clearly wrong, don’t assume any particular political leanings etc. just a genuine question.

I doubt it. I’m not even sure what kind of evidence could do that, when it comes to healthcare. How would you measure that?

According to the WHO, Chad, Central African Republic, Guinea-Bissau, Nepal, Eritrea, Mali, Uganda, Mozambique, Niger, and Somalia are good examples of no or extremely low government oversight.

I suppose you could make an argument that since places like Australia and NZ have less regulated private insurance, but compete against a single-payer system, they can be seen as less government interference.

They should be Ayn Rand’s idea of paradise.

Looking at this: Mozambique Life Expectancy (1950-2025) …it appears the life expectancy of most(at least…I didn’t check all) is increasing at a greater rate than that of the United States, England, Germany, France, and Italy. Does that mean they have better healthcare?

I just don’t know how one goes about measuring the quality of healthcare, except by asking where to go if you need some type of surgery. So much of what we call “healthcare,” is mostly due to decisions(diet, exercise, etc.) made by people not in healthcare.

When life expectancy is 5 years, due to massacres and crocodiles and cannibalism, you can only go up when you learn to avoid crocodiles.

A quick google check lists mostly international groups responsible for things like malaria treatment, anti-retroviral drugs, tuburculosis treatment, food access, and social causes lowering smoking rates, not the government of the country.

Anyway, I’m going back to my job making cigarettes in Galt’s Gultch.

Exactly.

How should the quality of a healthcare system be measured?

Edit:

Are we thinking that a few more government regulations would improve things? Maybe a little more red tape around what’s provided by international groups?

No, I was just answering a question posed earlier in the thread, since the complete separation of government and healthcare would prevent providing or regulating it.

When I left Florida for college some asshat asked me if they taught us how to avoid gators in school. I wanted to be pissed about stereotyping, but they actually did teach it. You run in a zig-zag.

That’s my contribution to world healthcare.

Serpentine, Shelly! Serpentine!

So what do you say when the rest of the 1st world countries on the face of the Earth pay about half as much often with better results and have government take care of the insurance part? They also ought to do drugs/treatments and get rid of the criminal pharma industry and it’s harmful profits-driven model.

The same thing.

I think that’s part of America’s problem(the others are obesity and sloth). Americans love their drugs.

I don’t see anything criminal about it. The government supports it, which is pretty bad…but that’s what Americans want.

To base healthcare on profits is to retard progress, which in turn makes people suffer for profit. If there is another treatment that can work better than pharma’s garbage drugs it will not see the light of day. Your choice in this country stops or is heavily redacted if it interferes with profit. It’s ironic how people worship capitalism, that shouts freedom and competition when the system itself doesn’t want freedom or competition. It wants profits. Maybe you’re right to a degree, it is not against the law but it is worse, it is evil. And Mr. Thompson was doing his part to continue this evil all for profit on the backs of the suffering and dead.

Ahhhhh…deny help, to people who paid for a service. Healthcare CEO’s are despicable people. The more they deny care the more money they make.

And that is a big part of the problem. Unfettered capitalism and those who think it’s better to let them regulate themselves.

If you think there’s a lot of fuckery now, deregulate it.

Let the guy on youtube start treating people with his hunches.

Oh, and that will be for profit too. Just not to scale.
