Dodgin’ Dadbods: Fortitude Training

Virginia, right outside Richmond. I have, I am really feeling a connection with nature and with myself right now.

Glad you enjoyed it dude, yeah there’s definitely a calling for most of us to do some stuff like that.

Cool, that’s a really nice area.

Yeah, I hate looking back at my training sometimes. I forced myself into the big 3 ‘box’ and have paid the consequences for it, but learning experiences, right? Wish I had been training more instinctively all along.

Perhaps it just takes time and experience to get here mentally.

Congrats on the triathlon finish too. You may have said, but any clue on when you may do another?

Fuckkkkk the big 3, haha. I even have done some Deads recently but I already cut them back out again. I had years of chronic back pain and JUST got out the other side of it and I could never run or even walk properly if I was still going through it.

My next triathlon is a slightly longer sprint, September 8th (little less than a month), half mile swim, 15 mile ride, 3 mile run, about 50 miles away in Williamsburg. Next year my plan is an Olympic one (mile swim, 24 mile ride, 6 mile run), and then NEXT September for the same triathlon festival that I’m doing this year, they have a half Ironman and that’s ultimately my goal for the next year. 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile ride, 13.1 mile run.

Awesome goals. Love having goals like that in-front of me. Makes it so much easier to stick to your game plan and be successful, but also allows you to pivot when needed.

Triathlons really interest me. I may start investigating :grin:

Dude! Try it out. The sense of community is amazing too, very positive group of people to be around and so much encouragement. Pretty much anyone can just sign up and do a sprint tri right off the bat without much of a problem. Look up kinetic multisports, they’re the biggest triathlon hosts in the US and they always have a ton of events going on everywhere.

Thanks! I’ll check it out. I’ve been thinking about what I want my conditioning to look like as my back nears 100% finally. This may be it.

Not sure on the biking part though. I have zero interest getting on a main road, or any road for that matter, with cars.

The bike portions are blocked off from traffic in races. Just research paved trails near you to practice. I don’t ride with cars usually but I have ridden in Manhattan, haha.

:fu:
Big 3 is life. As I sit here with an ice pack on my knee from squatting.

Ice pack or not, you’re absolutely built for that. Every time I try with them I rack up injuries, and I know everyone does, but I just don’t think I’m built for them.

Short leg workout. Friend went mountain biking instead, and I do love mountain biking but honestly I just don’t want to break any bones and fuck myself up, I’m on a hybrid and it’s not great for my back with all the impact and jumps. I just did a quick 10 mile ride at like 90% intensity and ended at the gym.

Superset
Single leg curl 5 sec ecc
3x10
Single leg DB RDL
3x10

Superset
Trap bar deads high handles (as I just said to @IronOne that I took em out)
150 3x25
Leg extension 110 3x10 5 sec ecc

These feel sooo much different than a conventional deadlift for me - almost more similar to a hack squat or leg press than a deadlift.

Yeah, that’s why I used them in my quads superset. I use a real narrow stance and a bit more knee bend than I’d normally go with.

Walked Alfie 2 miles to my sons elementary schools playground which has pullup and dip bars. Did 100 pull-ups and dips, superset style, 1 pullup 1 dip, 2 pull-ups 2 dips, up to 10 and back down to 1. Walked 2 miles back and did an extra half mile loop around my complex running.

@IronOne where do you live at?

Charlotte, NC area, Lake Wylie, SC to be exact.

One of my work friend/counterparts handles the Richmond Market. He loves it there.

If you’re ever around the rva area let me know dude, we’re not that far away.

Midnight 3 mile run with the dog on a mile loop with a decent hill. Sprinted the hill at 100% intensity every loop. Took a look at Alfie during the second sprint, who is running at probably 80% intensity (I swear this dog is scary fast), and he looked the happiest I’ve seen him. He’s just out there galloping after spending half of the first 3 years of his life stuck in a crate. Made me very happy as well.

I’m not a maniac by the way, I just get off of work at 11. Also, I did my running in my new shoes tonight. I ordered Asics after years of Nike’s because the one pair I had of them was the best shoe I’ve ever had. Anyhow, they’re sweet. So much support for my flat-footed feet! Feels great.

Used to follow for kettlebell swings, now for Alfie lol

It’s as good of a reason to follow as anything else! My wife had her legs semi-propped up and he just hopped up and nestled himself under her legs and passed out immediately.

And as I’m writing this, he grunts and really sprawls out:
