Dodgin’ Dadbods: Fortitude Training

I am impressed, and good luck!

My gym has one of those belt squat machines (it’s the best gym ever). It’s kind of a weird feeling - it pulls you forward a little bit. 100% quad

Cuts - at least the initial part before the suck really sets in - are easy for me. For one, I’m one of those few on here who have to force myself to eat enough. So if I just eat normally, and then let myself be a tiny bit hungry, I can drop weight fast. Second, I did a month long metcon program, and third, I’ve been doing 2 weeks of swimming, biking, and running almost every day. Not to mention you started your cut like 20 lbs heavier than me!

I wanna be the Quadfather, so that’s perfect!

Sorry dude I wasnt clear with that, I meant it as an alternative whilst you dont have access to one. Buy a couple of clips and a bit on chain and hook it up.

This guy loads it pretty heavy and makes it look like a similar movement.

I hear about this, and believe it’s true, but I can’t really understand it. Like when I hear a high-level physics podcast.

Those skinny guys in the gym lifting every day but always looking weak and scrawny and never getting bigger - all of them have that problem. For whatever reason, our brains signal that we’re full after not much food. So skinny people who gain appreciable size (I gained 60 lbs, 45 lbs of muscle) have to stuff themselves until they are uncomfortably full, for years, consistently. It fucking sucks and it hinders progress nonstop. I’m sure gaining weight too easily must suck too, though. The concept is as bewildering to me as my dilemma is to you.

Two sides of the same coin, my friend.

You’d think we’d adapt, but, alas, that doesn’t seem to be the case - you still don’t like to eat after the gain, I still like to eat too much even after I (rarely) lose weight.

I, too, have only had two or more beers at a time lately

My wife and I spoke on the phone while I was at work and she was like “kids are driving me crazy!” And I’m like “work is driving me crazy!” Sooooo probably a beer and a joint for us once I’m home and the kids are in bed.

Also: woke at 205.6, new low.

Swam 1000m, got out and put on socks and shoes and threw on a shirt, biked 5 miles on the exercise bike at a way higher resistance than the flat land I’ll be biking on, and got off the bike, jogged to the treadmill and did a quarter mile jogging followed by a quarter mile basically sprinting. The pool makes you all around tired, but those first steps after getting off the bike suck.

Remember small strides for the first part. Your body is coming of the bike used to the “small strides” of pedalling.

That makes a ton of sense!

Try it out a couple of times, a little faster but shorter strides. It’s a bit slower at the start of the run, but you’ll soon find your normal strides and then you’ll blast through those who suffering with cramps and build up lactic acid.

Funny, that’s one of my favorite gym pumps. Something bout that slightly bow legged awkward first few steps makes me happy lol. I’d second the smaller steps thought as well and immediately get into your breathing pattern. If you consciously focus on breathing consistently it’ll be a game changer. I used to run the mile and 800 in track and we had a coach who harped on breathing. At the time I thought it was stupid but I’m just a few months it took my mile time from like 6.5 minutes to 5 minutes flat.

No swimming… that’s a whole different monster that I suck at. I don’t know how anyone can fly through the water like I’ve seen in races.

I’m pretty sure I would be able to make it big in the triathalon if they dropped the swimming and cycling.

Swimming is 100% technique. Yes, you can’t be out of shape and swim far, but you can be in amazing shape and nearly drown after 100 meters because you’re lifting your head to breathe and smashing your arms into the water.

Yesterday: beach all day. Did some swimming, got burnt up, drank tons of alcohol. Woke up today feeling the effects of yesterday and did a 30 mile ride with a couple friends. Not fast, averaging 40 minutes per 10 miles, and I’m hoping I’ll feel better after a swim than I did this morning before riding, haha.

You and your wife will smoke a joint together? I think that’s awesome.

My wife’s completely against it due to a rough upbringing (abhorrent parents, if you call them that). However, she’s getting much more comfortable with things these days, as she knows she’s in a safe place, and neg experiences are being replaced with pos. One day we shall enjoy that little sweet piece of life together.

Good job on the weight loss and family PRs!!!
