That steak is glorious
It better have been. New York butcher shops in Long Island aren’t cheap - I got 2 of those, 3+ lbs each, and they were $92 each. Wife was less than pleased…until she ate a piece, and then ate like a pound by herself.
But yeah - cooked it perfectly, let it rest for 15 mins and it was divine.
Excuse me, but what the fuck?
Look up what it costs to order a 3-4 lb locally sourced, grass fed tomahawk to you - I dunno what country you’re in but in the US it’s anywhere between $75 and $150 before shipping, depending on quality. Then factor in that Long Island, specifically the area we’re in, is top 3 most expensive living costs in the country. Again, not saying it’s not stupid, but it’s what you’ll pay in this area.
Mate that steak looks legit, Quality
I’m not sure which part of LI you’re on, but I used to visit some work clients in Ronkonkoma on my way to Flushing for an old job now and then. I’d take the ferry from CT to Orient point. That end of the island is pretty sweet but I always found it funny how expensive it is. I’d be driving down looking at what appeared to be abandoned wineries and think to myself, who wants to live here?
Ya gotta get off the main roads to see the appeal. Beaches in every direction, and it really is very pretty. Still, though - this is where my wife’s family is from, not mine, and I decided pretty quickly after having kids that New York in general was not where I wanted to be. Nothing could be worth this cost of living, and the average wages are pretty much identical to VA. My wife has 2 sisters that refuse to leave this area and neither of them can afford to be here. One is in a tiny one-bedroom house with a kid, and she is only getting a decent rental fee while they renovate it, at which point she has no idea where to go, and the other lives at home with their mom and they can’t afford to leave.
Savour it my man. Soak it up
I don’t doubt it man, I couldn’t get out of the Boston area fast enough when I made that mistake. Not quite as bad as NY but not too far off. Rural living FTW.
Yeah, my brother did a bunch of research at a hospital in Boston and my uncle lives there - it’s got a lot of nice parts, and it’s expensive as hell, but the worst part is how confusing the roads are. Being from a grid system city and going there fucks you up.
Haha no doubt dude. I can get around there just fine on foot but I still fire up the GPS about half the time I need to drive somewhere down there.
Took Alfie on a 5 mile walk weaving in and out of neighborhoods along the beach. Going to a BBQ with some friends, gonna bring that 2nd tomahawk.
This presents a potential awkward situation. Do you cook your own steak on someone else’s grill or do you let them cook it and risk screwing it up???
You cook It yourself. No debate.
@Frank_C yup. No debate. I paid for it and I’ll season and cook it, there’s not a chance in hell im letting anybody touch that. None of my friends would ever do this, but if somebody insisted on cooking it, I’d just take it back home.
The pressure was on because the guy whose house it was eats out at a lot of high end steakhouses, plus he’d just had a bad experience with a badly cooked and seasoned tomahawk last week, so I had to get it right, plus they offered me a meat thermometer and I turned it down, so I’d look like a real dunce if I screwed the pooch.
Killed it. 3 minutes a side, then turned it a few times on lower heat for an extra 5 or so minutes, and then let it rest for 15-20 minutes. It was perfect.
I call the bone!
Fuckin’ A man, when did this become a porn log? That steak is something else.
Got my son to gnaw a few pieces off, and my wife even tore a couple pieces off too, but I finished it, stripped it clean. People were hesitant to eat too much because I hadn’t had more than a piece, but I had the bone to look forward to, and I take genuine pleasure in sharing tasty food with friends and family. My wife is a bit territorial over her food but I’ll offer bites to everyone if it tastes good.
Back at it after a long car ride from NY to VA.
OHP
95, 115, 135, 145, 155x5, 135 5x5 with assistance 1 and 2 alternating between.
Climbed up a huge sand hill the other day with my son - you can see my marks from sliding back down but he climbed back up and wanted to get as high as I’d gotten. The picture doesn’t do it justice - it was huge, and he’s only 5 so I was super proud. Very tiring and sketchy.
I love mountain biking but unfortunately there are not many good places in FL for it. Can’t ride through the swamp.
Looks quite tough going up that stuff.
