Joker: 260x3 smooth.
200 5x10

Not much time today, so supersetted pushups 5x20 and pull-ups 5x10

Finished with 2 8-round assault bike tabatas and weighted hip flexor knee raises with the 10# kB on my feet - 2x20 each leg. These are amazing and have all but eliminated my hip pain that’s been springing up from squatting.

Just realized I haven’t followed your log despite copious badassery and kickass work. Fixed it now. Good work on the squats man, and as a dude that hasn’t had a mother for 15 years, seeing you praise yours and value the relationship is cool.

Thanks - those were my first jokers in squats, and it’s been a huge blow to my ego to keep myself from going over 3 plates every time I get a chance, but I had to relearn how to squat (plus switch entirely to SSB squats), and despite the light weight my legs have definitely been growing. Appreciate having you along.

Yeah, my mom’s a blessing - been the best mom I’ve ever even heard of for my entire life. My dad was hit or miss, but we’d mended our relationship right before he passed. My wife’s dad was a drug addict who abandoned her, and left her with her drug addict mom who neglected and severely abused her, so she calls my mom “mom” now, and my mom thinks of her as a daughter, not a daughter-in-law. Anyone who has a decent parent that doesn’t take time to let them know they’re appreciated is making a huge mistake.

Dude it’s tough, I hear ya. My squat has been tanking a bit lately in comparison to what it’s been. Granted, I’ve been running more so that takes its toll. I’d imagine your height makes squatting a chore, you squatting 260 is like me squatting 350+ (no altitude sickness )

Absolutely. I was lucky that I had 2.5 good ones. My dad wasn’t super engaged until my mom died, then he stepped up and rocked both roles like a champ. Not a super touchy-feely kinda guy, but my brothers and I have done our best to make it clear that we’d be in serious trouble if he was anyone else. I struggled with my stepmom when she came into the picture but she’s become a friend that’s pretty important too. I just like when people acknowledge their parents have done them favors and contributed in some way to their success/happiness - at least when that’s actually the case.

Yeah, the height probably makes a difference, but it’s mostly that I was always a “sit-back” squatter, wide stance, all hams and posterior chain, and while that’s not something terrible, when combined with my close stance, all hams deadlifts, my quads were severely neglected, so my knees and hips were cranky and out of wack. Now I’m embracing knee flexion, squatting down and not back, and my stance is shoulder width. When I first fixed it, I’m ashamed to say that 135 felt legitimately heavy. Now, my ankle mobility is improving, my quads are growing and my knees feel awesome.

Yep, I’m the total opposite. Straight down, maybe engage the hams if I feel like it. My legs look hilarious because of that and my hams are pretty pathetic. Deadlifting shows that. I do think that if you want to chase both squat and deadlift numbers you should try to make sure your quads are involved in squatting. Big quads are always cool too. It sucks to take the steps backwards, but the struggle ends up worth it.

My wife cleaned the whole house today and made my birthday awesome, and comes downstairs sweating, and says “who’s the best wife in the whole world?” And from the other room, my five-year-old goes “NOT YOU!!!” Epic troll job, we all laughed for a couple minutes.

Appreciate this by the way.

Thanks! Not a dad and may not even become a dad, but the sentiment is seriously appreciated

Oh, I thought you were a dad based on the way you talk about family :hugs:

Nope, just raised to hold family as incredibly important. If we don’t have kids, my wife and I have both committed to trying to help people as much as good parents help their kids, so we’ve got a lot of work to do. Especially after seeing the way the folks you mentioned take care of their families. I have really good real-life role models, but I also have some really good forum role models too. Can’t ever learn enough from the right people.

Sorry for the derail @flappinit

No such thing as a derail in here - anything goes except for full blown political arguments or bigotry, hah.

Tell me more! Do you hang the bell on one foot then the other? Are you laying on your back or hanging from a leg raise chair…?

Happy birthday, it sounds like your family made it great!

Happy birthday flap, sounds like a great day!

I stand on a low platform with the target leg hanging off, high enough so that I can extend my leg without the kettlebell touching the ground. Then I raise my knee so it goes just above hip height.

Yesterday, went on a 6 mile hike with my mom and my 2 kids (wife was at work). Climbed rocks, took pictures, found plants and animals, and finished with burgers (and a beer for my mom and I). Great day. Today is OHP.
