Dodgin’ Dadbods: Fortitude Training

My upper back gets some work with clean pulls but I’m doing triples with almost 300 lbs instead of marathon sets of 10.

I see these programs and the design intrigues me. It’s just 10 sets with one exercise instead of spreading it around with the exception of chest day.

Been some time in the making, but I confess I just spent 4 hours with my combo of an Ibanez Electric/Casio PX-5S/Akai Mini MPK MKII wired through my laptop with FL Stufio 20 all routed through my BRAND NEW Boss RC-300 Loop station and it’s been amazing.
@garagerocker13 might appreciate!

Oh hell yeah man! That Boss is just the holy grail of loopers. I got the DigiTech JamMan and it’s probably the only piece of gear I’ve ever gotten that’s made me better at music. Haven’t had the balls to do anything live yet though. You getting the hang of that beast? I can barely flub around with my 1 pedal looper, let alone that thing. Haha

Also, here’s my 4th of July project. It’s a Peavey Bandit chassis out of a combo amp where the cabinet disintegrated. Got it for $85 and am gonna build a custom enclosure to turn it into a head, then build a 112 speaker cab with an Eminence Patriot Red, White, and Blues speaker in it. Figured a made-in-the-US amp needs a US-made speaker :metal:

Someone was selling the digitech jamman on the facebook marketplace for like 60 bucks and I was about to get it, but Sweetwater was having a sale and split the total price into 3 payments for me, so I jumped on it, and it arrived today. It’s glorious.

It has a TON of effects, which can be applied to one or all of the tracks, you can loop different tracks for different amounts of bars (which includes a bass effect for guitar), you can switch time signatures mid-loop, etc. The inputs include 2 1/4", 2 XLR’s, 2 MIDI, 1 USB, 1 AUX, and a footswitch, and a couple other things I’m forgetting.

It really only took me an hour to get my foot coordination down - probably helps that I played as an organist for years - but I have some tweaking to do with my Akai Mini to reduce latency…going from a pad on the mini keyboard to the computer to the loop to the amp inevitably leaves a bit of lag, but I think there are ways to mitigate that.

SWEET, dude! That’s awesome. Your knowledge with regards to electronics far exceeds mine. How did you first start diving into modification of amps/heads/speakers?

Love the left handed strat body just chillin there, haha. I’m a lefty myself - just wasn’t about to put myself through the hell of only needing left handed guitars, so I learned standard.

Honest to God, boredom and being a cheap ass. Haha I’ve always been into woodworking so that aspect doesn’t scare me too much. I was an engineer in manufacturing plants installing equipment, so I know just enough about electricity to not inadvertently put my life in danger. And then there’s the whole left-handed guitar thing. Lefties cost 50-100% more than righties and are hard as hell to find. They also don’t do anywhere near as much QC on them. So I got pissed and bought a guitar kit. Since then I’ve really enjoyed tearing my gear apart and messing with it. I’m a mediocre musician at best but I can create decent sounding stuff by modding the balls off of my gear :metal:

I think we’re polar opposites…I was trained in classical piano by a hardcore Russian husband-wife duo whose son was a violinist in the New York Philharmonic, so while I got well away from classical piano and picked up guitar, I ended up a decent musician but a dunce at recording and tech in general, haha. Still - I have a couple cheap guitars and a cheap amp that I could tinker around with - I suppose common sense applies here and if I want to learn to fuck around with electronics I have to start fucking around with electronics.

Very jealous you got hold of that kind of learning and that you’ve turned into a decent musician. I’m about useless and a half with recording, I just like tinkering and amps/guitars are way cheaper than cars when you fuck up. Maybe if I can find clean-ish, sober-ish people to jam with I’ll start playing out again, but for now I’m liking playing on my porch and stuff.

Yes, you should definitely learn to fuck with electronics. Just remember that the capacitors in the amp have enough juice to kill you for up to a week after you unplug it :flushed:

I had a lot of energy today - just felt great waking up, felt great walking into the gym, and honestly felt great til set 8. Sets 9 and 10 were tough, but it didn’t murder me. The lunges - light as they are, were shaky and very uncomfortable, but it’s just one of those days where you feel great and perform great. The unfortunate part of that is that the chances of this happening again next monday aka deep water misery day are slim to none. In some ways, these high-performance days can be a real mindfuck. They’re the kind of days where you set an easy gym PR that you just can’t seem to recreate the next time.

These are the “portals” they talk about in the book. I feel like you are experienced enough to jump in next time.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. I’ll identify them and jump in next Monday.

In so many other circumstances, hearing that I’ve gained enough experience to move to the next level of something would be great to hear, but in this case it’s more like “oh. great. more misery.”

Today marks 3 weeks from the day I decided to never post in PWI again. Whatever negative effects I encounter from the ads and other bullshit has been offset by the joy it feels to not discuss contentious topics with people who are only ever able to see one side of any issue - which, on both sides of the aisle, is all that exists there.

Now, if those people could just stop creeping into the off topic section like a cancer, I’d have true bliss.

I’ll get it done, but don’t count on it being allowed to stay.

Oh shit, I forgot you started this.

We just need to inundate it with lifting confessions.

That would involve me actually lifting, which sounds difficult.

Yes! I’m done with Off Topic. It’s not that it’s annoying or irritating; it’s just disappointing and boring. I’ll see 40 posts and think it was a good day and then I find out that it’s just two people having a conversation about something way outside of my wheelhouse or interests.

It’s back thanks to @dagill2
I added a pseudo-confession. Do your job now and keep it there. LIFTING CONFESSIONS.

You might’ve saved me from leaving the website. I’ve been finding myself bored as of late and losing interest around here. If Flame Free returns to its old glory then I’ll have some entertainment again.
