Dodgin’ Dadbods: Fortitude Training

Your assumption that it was tongue in cheek was correct, haha. It’s lifting weights: I can’t take it seriously.

I tend to avoid failure in training, precisely because of the negative impact it has on me.

Is that why your recent workout had dips to failure x 6.
Sorry

Just makes it easier to log vs remembering the exact number. I go until I stop, but they aren’t true failure.

I feel like we’re all agreeing on the same concept:

When you up intensity, either with regard to exercise selection or in the performance of said exercise, volume must be adjusted. Or should be.

None of the three 5x1.5rep pushups were to failure, the second one was failure at 6 pushups which occurred super fast, and the last one was probably the only one to true failure, since it involved failure in full pushups, on my knees, and propped up on stairs. That’s one of the highest intensity’s to take the exercise, but the exercise itself is not high on the intensity scale of possible exercises I could be doing, so I recovered pretty quickly. Were I to do high rep true failure deads, that’s the most intense I could perform the most intense exercise. You’re only doing one of those. But I’ve definitely done 4+ sets of rope tricep extensions where I physically could not complete another rep even with body english, and a few minutes later I was good to go.

So I agree with everything everyone said, really.

I kind of think your successful training sets might have a negative effect on a regular human. Fortunately, it’s just a regular session for you at this point.

Another helluva day.

Started with jogging around the complex while my 4 year old rode his bike. We did 4 laps (half mile complex, so 2 miles). Then I took my youngest to Walmart and got him a new bike because his huffy was falling apart, and did 2 laps with the 3 year old for another mile. Then I got on my hybrid and attached the tow trailer to it, loaded the kids in and rode the 2 miles to the school in an all out sprint, racing the wife, though I was towing ~120 pounds so I gassed myself out hard. Did 50 pullups and 50 pushups, chased my kids, ate a sandwich, got the kids back in the trailer after an hour, rode home in another sprint. Then they wanna ride their bikes again, so we did another 2 laps. So 4 miles jogging, 4 miles towing a lot of weight, 6 sets of pushups in the AM, 50 pullups and 50 dips in the afternoon, I’m officially spent.

Gotta squat tomorrow too.

~3/4lb (1/4 each taco) ground turkey tacos, had one more 3 lb package set to expire from when the ground beef ran out so I made all 3 lbs into tacos with the frontera sauce pack, instead of the regular taco seasoning. Good shit with Greek yogurt (best sour cream substitute, you just can’t tell), shredded cheese, kidney beans and about a gallon of hot sauce.

Tonight, back to ground beef, will be giant burgers with havarti cheese and homemade sweet potato fries. The sweet potato fries are super easy to make, crispy and delicious.

Breakfast was 8 eggs, bacon, sautéed summer squash, toast, cheese.

Wooooooo baby. I am fluffed the fuck up, haha. I’d like to come down to ~215ish and stay there for a while after this, but I might hit 230 by the time this is over.

Obviously, you’re not eating (fast) enough.

Serious question -don’t you start to bust out of your pants/underpants?

Yes.

Always had a big butt for whatever reason. My wife loves it. It’s probably the only reason she’s dealt with our house smelling the way it has been, from farts and frying pans (a sick name for an Eggs-and-Beef-Only Cookbook), for nearly a month now.

Might need new clothes though, if I get rid of this fluff and my clothes still look a size too small.

I’m right there with ya, brother. I ate way too many Doritos yesterday and today’s food was:

  • protein pancakes for breakfast
  • pizza and cake and ice cream for lunch
  • pizza and cake and ice cream for dinner
  • aaaaand some vodka with a lite Arnold Palmer mix

Tomorrow will be a fast, dammit. :man_facepalming:

Only 30? Come on, keep up.

Even after 90+ posts to catch up on, I still have nothing of any real value to add except your work ethic is phenomenal. And your arms.

Doggone, that is a nice-looking workout. I always psych myself out, because I believe I need lots of assistance so I can directly train every little muscle. And yet, my greatest success has been with no-fluff workouts just like this.

Gonna hafta suppress my inner wannabe bodybuilder and follow the successful tracks.

ARe you supersetting these between the main lifts ?

No, I don’t do it pwn-style, but I do the accessory all as giant sets, so 10 rows, AMRAP pushups, and usually 50 pullaparts, so after 2 sets it’s just rows and pushups, and after a few sets it’s just rows since I finish the pushups pretty quickly. When I have dips in there I’ll just do 10 and 10 with dips and pull-ups back and forth the whole time.
My main work is focusing on form and bar speed, supersetting for me right now would probably just lead to bad habits.

I think it’s a super effective way of exercising. That being said, there aren’t any bodybuilders using that type of workout, haha. But for combined strength and athleticism, I’m a big fan.

Agreed!

Back in the days when bodybuilders still looked human, they did. Then they’d rest for a few hours, take all the steroids, and spend five hours on isolation exercises.

Agreed again. I’d say your arms are also big fans.

Started in my new position, off the plant production floor, so working less with my hands, which is a bummer, but no more chemicals, and I get to work with computers and do a form of programming, which is way less stressful and easier on my fucked up joints.

Rest day today, much needed.

Breakfast: 6 fried eggs
Lunch: 1 lb of taco meat with kidney beans and cheese
3 hours later, 6 boiled eggs
Tonight is more burgers. Ground beef is starting to stock back up. Toilet paper I figured would stay out of stock for quite some time, but when people were freaking out about Ground Beef, I was trying to tell them - virtually nobody is actually eating more ground beef, they’re just stockpiling it, so when their freezers are full, and stores up their purchasing to meet the 3249023840239% increased demand, there’ll be plenty for the sane people.
