Should I read this as you supporting the return of slavery?
Gotta fill up the lanyard!! ![]()
You don’t even need bread. Just pretend like it’s your hand.
That jives with the 3, week long visits I’ve enjoyed in Lewiston and brunswick over the past 10ish years.
Somethings never change.
Are you sure that’s happening?
From what I see, seems like you might be buying into another false narrative.
Rumor has it that She was on lockdown here in Pgh. for the last 5 days to get her detoxed, not debate coaching.
hi, european guy here my outside perspective of the US is that y’all are definitely gonna fall because y’all dont see the class problem anymore y’all think its about poor minorities or lgbtq agenda that actually make up for such a small proportion of Americans but your news make it way bigger to distract from the rich elite and companies who actually make your life miserable take your money take your worksurplus and give you nothing in return. hell wtf is the government (democrat and republican almost the same y’all don’t realize it) even investing in. definitely not the people and the roads, schools,… look at Switzerland the people there have such a high standard the USA is a joke. Your problem is you still have the red scare but forget that the black panther party the socialist gave you your rights by protesting revolution not the rich republicans and democrats.
“However, Springfield police and officials have said in response to the narrative that there are no widespread instances of Haitian immigrants stealing pets to eat them.”
Read articles before posting them. That isn’t a denial.
I understand that, and my point about health care was not to debate the minutiae of that industry instead of real estate, but to point out that this is most or all large industries. They are increasingly exploitive of a captive consumer group. Healthcare, farming, and food offer an easier lens into this. Expectations are no longer what they were in the 60’s (I guess? few people remember, and memory is subject to nostalgia), which is due, again in my opinion, to changes in our political system.
Here is an issue which explains some of the price increases we see, which create feelings of frustration and discontent and which is a symptom of the change in our economy, not the cause. The cause is government corruption. Because people are looking for leadership, they are susceptible to the two major parties, who simply blame the other for the state of things. While nothing changes no matter who is in office and our choices are limited to some of the most reviled politicians any of us have ever seen. We have highest officials who are in fact at home, nearly brain dead, and others who have to have aids help them off the podium when they can’t speak coherently! WTF. But here we are.
As for the 1960’s:
- Changes in the CEO-to-worker compensation ratio (1965–2020). Using the realized compensation measure, the CEO-to-worker compensation ratio was 21-to-1 in 1965. It peaked at 366-to-1 in 2000. In 2020 the ratio was 351-to-1. Most important, the ratio was far higher than at any point in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, or 1990s. Using the CEO granted compensation measure, the CEO-to-worker compensation ratio rose to 203-to-1 in 2020, significantly lower than its peak of 386-to-1 in 2000 but still many times higher than the 45-to-1 ratio of 1989 or the 15-to-1 ratio of 1965.
As far as farm subsidies, I agree with you, @RT_Nomad, we need to protect our small farms. However, as with seemingly all the well-meaning programs initiated by congress, it’s become largely corrupted. I’m for farm subsidies, but where is the oversight?
USDA data show that 23 percent of farms with yearly revenues of less than $100,000 receive federal subsidies, but 69 percent of farms above that income threshold do.19 At the very top end, 50 people on the Forbes 400 list of the wealthiest Americans received farm subsidies between 1995 and 2014.20
I understand, and was discussing the specific example you proffered for context, with an assumption of similar extrapolation. Granularity is important to understand sweeping commentary accurately.
Where, specifically, do you see exploitation in the medical system? I don’t want to rehash points made earlier, but given your illustrations, what changes? The $400 an hour charge for your $80 per hour time? How is the $320 difference distributed and administered, and where is the exploitation? Is $80 exploitive to a class of people in need of your services, with limited access? (I don’t think so, for the record. You don’t “owe” anybody your time or expertise).
Is a health insurance company exploiting a market by offering the service of off-setting potential costs for people who can’t afford them? I would’ve said no when it was an optional service, but as it became a legal mandate I would say exploitation is in play. However the exploitation I see revolves around government regulating the private industry of health insurance and utilizing the tax system to play Robin Hood inside of it while forcing participation, or at least penalizing non participants.
Can you elaborate where you see exploitation more granularly?
If you had read one paragraph further…
In a statement on Tuesday, a Springfield police spokesperson said, “In response to recent rumors alleging criminal activity by the immigrant population in our city, we wish to clarify that there have been no credible reports or specific claims of pets being harmed, injured or abused by individuals within the immigrant community.”
So again, I’ll ask… Are you sure that is happening? Or did you just take a slimy con artist at his word?
I don’t know the con artist you’re referring to but you quoted a spokesperson, someone who wouldn’t have any idea what is happening.
And why would you have a better idea? Maybe the police spokesman for the city is wrong, so where are you getting better information from?
I’ve heard what actual citizens are saying. You know, the people who live in the community. And, they’re Haitians.
If we listened to city officials we’d believe Chicago is safe and Baltimore public schools are thriving. And Lewiston ME is utopia.
You have recently talked with citizens from Springfield, and they said that their pets are being eaten by Haitian immigrants? Wild.
It was at a council meeting.
Generally speaking, the Universe 25 Experiment has some potentially interesting application in the conversation of population size/density and abundance (consumerism): Universe 25 Experiment | TS Digest | The Scientist
No police reports? Or evidence of any kind? Only one citizen making the claim? Huh.
Make you a deal: let’s believe citizens making serious claims without any evidence. So, we can agree the dozens of women who say trump sexually assaulted or raped them are all truthful? Would that be fair?
It seems that it is impossible to run a program less efficient than the government can run it.
Isn’t this exactly what happened though?
