Do You Know the Secret?

From what I can gather, and no I haven’t watched the movie but plan to out of curiousity, it is nothing new. Personally I feel that the idea that the “universe will wrap itself towards your goals” thing is completely untrue, and for a few reasons:

  1. If you decide to make something a priority, and reinforce that daily, your mind will see it as a priority, and will automatically “alert” to things that relate to this priority. This is no big secret, my dad told me this something like 6 years ago!! The example he liked to use: Have you ever noticed that when you start to look at buying a new car, and you have come close to the car you want, you start noticing the same car everywhere you go? You’ve simply told your mind that is what’s important and now it is picking up on it more.

  2. Visualization. If this is the first time you have heard of visualization then I feel sorry for you. Very old and powerful secret here that should need no explaining.

  3. Correlation. This is the fun part. You happen to meet random person A, get into a conversation, subject that you have reinforced in your mind comes up, person A knows a guy who can help you with that, so on and so forth. Nothing mystical or secretive here. Its called networking and working on your priorities. Except when people falsely put the 2 together, “I wanted to find someone to help with X and then through some people I met him, wow, the universe is bending to my whim!” Ok, maybe I am being a bit of an ass, but after reading the info on that “The Secret” website I feel this is pretty accurate.

But I will still watch the movie, then I’ll come here and say if my gut feeling is correct or if I am a dumbass who has no idea what he is talking about, we’ll see.

In a country like ours, we are all surrounded by opportunity. It remains for us to see it and act on it. I have no problem believing that by focusing one’s mind on a fixed goal, contemplating it and believing in it, our minds naturally and “effortlessly” move us by degrees toward our objects. I think that is rational and consistent with the world as it is knowable by science.

I do not know if God or some other power intervenes in some way, but I do believe that there is never any harm in being thankful for what one has; gratitude is at least guard against hubris.

Cheers Nephorm!

OI! Just got done watching this dreck. Since the entire video is on Youtube, not only did I not pay to see it, since I’m at work I was technically being paid to see it… And I still feel cheated.

While I kept watching the “experts” (some of their titles were nothing short of comedy gold; “Metaphysicist”, “Visionary”, “Feng Shui Consultant”) repeat the same drivel over and over, I kept wondering what would happen to their pie-in-the-sky perspective if, as they spoke, I kept punching them in the face. Not hard, just maybe 1/8-1/4 strength jabs.

If they asked why I was hitting them, I would simply tell them that due to their thoughts, the “Law of Attraction” is attracting my fists to their faces, and that they should try to stop having such negative thoughts, and see if my punches stopped.

Hmmm… Maybe I’m a guru!

It would be irresponsible of me to do that. You see, my hand speed was so swift that sometimes I used to wonder where it came from, and I broke those automatic punching machines they used to make.
