Yes, I think Smell-O-Vision is long overdue.
Since you like black coffee, I like either Illy or Lavazza. Come on, can you really knock a coffee company with an ad like this?

I used to. I like the way it makes me feel but I’m switching to green tea for now because coffee causes vasoconstriction, and whenever I drink it I don’t feel like I’m as ‘metabolically active’ in the morning as I should be (due to the restricted blood flow I’m guessing).

Caffeine is a vasodilator…
That being said, if I even smell coffee in the AM, I need to make a beeline to the john.
Are you sure? I think decaf coffee has vasodilator properties, but I believe caffeinated coffee (i.e. caffeine) is vasoconstrictor… at least that is what Wikipedia says, lol. “Because adenosine, in part, serves to regulate blood pressure by causing vasodilation, the increased effects of adenosine due to caffeine withdrawal cause the blood vessels of the head to dilate, leading to an excess of blood in the head and causing a headache and nausea. This means caffeine has vasoconstriction properties.”
All I know is, I usually have lots of veins in my arms, but when I drink coffee, those veins go away. That to me means vasoconstriction.

Yeah, me too. Is this an Asia thing?
God damn coffee makers are just too expensive in this country…
You’re in Japan right? I’ve seen some of the great instant coffees at my supermarket here in Taiwan and it seems like the Japanese are very good with their instant coffee.
I get Nescafe Blend 37 in a 500g tub at Costco for about $20US. I drink mine black and used to get a venti from Starbucks each morning. Those were just under $3.00US, so even though some may be able to tell the difference, it doesn’t mean then that the instant is bad.
When you check the ingredients it’s just coffee beans.
Also, the instant is so much easier and faster to make. We have a hot water machine at work and I have one at home too.
Now please remember I’m in no way shitting on good, expensive coffee…you’d have to nuts not to see the quality in some of those high-end places ( we have Lavazza and Illy shops here in Taiwan) and on Sundays my girlfriend will bring out that coffee thng with two glass bulbs and the fire under it and we drink the Kopi Luwak coffee.

Taken from another site where the question, “Is caffeine a vasoconstrictor or vasodialator?” was asked:
I am not so certain that caffeine will produce a net vasoconstrictive effect peripherally. In fact the actual outcome of vasomotor tone is dependent on many factors that are competing and balancing with one another. So that this theory seems implausible or at least not likely. But it should be noted that caffeine at first generates vasodilation.
Caffeine’s mechanism of action involves increasing the synthesis and release of catecholamines and increasing intracellular cAMP concentration through phosphodiesterase inhibition. These pharmacological effects are demonstrable in multiple organ systems. Central nervous system physiological responses include stimulation of the cerebrum and medulla, resulting in the often desired effect of alertness and hypervigilence. The cardiovascular response includes direct stimulation of the myocardium; however this effect may be mitigated to some extent by concurrent vagal stimulation. These factors sometimes result in ventricular irritability, manifested as premature ventricular contractions. Likewise, direct vasodilation occurs, although this may be counteracted by vasoconstriction from stimulation of the medullary vasomotor center, and may cause either increases or decreases in blood pressure. Smooth muscle is relaxed by caffeine, while skeletal muscle is stimulated.
Everything I’ve read says that caffeine is primarily a vasodilator. It appears as though is may cause a reactionary vasoconstrictive response in some systems.
Interesting. But us 2 nerds have to stop de-railing this thread. lol

Yeah, but you aren’t experiencing massive vasodilation like us cool people are, so there.

Seeing as I forgot what this thread was about anyway, here is a picture that makes me sad. Coffee consumption only helps marginally.
I really do enjoy my coffee. I drink it from 6:00am until 11:30pm. I know it is a problem because if I don’t have it I get the sweats and a headache. My thing is… so how bad is this addiction? Is it something I really need to worry about? My coffee pot does not go off until about 11:00pm so that I can set it up for the next day.
I just do not think it can be that bad for you. NO… NO… No.
^^ You have a point. If it’s only coffee, which frequently get a bad rap but is fine, what’s wrong with needing it? Like you said, I also may get a bit of a headache if I don’t have it.
Hell, it could be the same with oxygen…what if the doctor never spanked us when we were born…maybe we don’t need oxygen and that first big gulp of it sets us up for a lifetime addiction. hell, I can’t go more than ten seconds without the stuff.
DB Cooper, 36 shots in 30 minutes? If true I am humbled by your mere presence, shit I worked there for 3 yrs and two a day was all I could take or my knees and elbows would shake. Did you ever eat the coffee grinds after pressed?
I think 36 shots of espresso would propel you about a tenth of a second into the future.
That may be why you jitter so much…so that your atoms are not in exactly the same place so that when you did jump that tenth of a second your atoms would not be occupying the same place.

Never ate the coffee grinds. But when I snorted coke all the time I snorted a bunch of freshly-ground coffee when I ran out of blow and couldn’t get ahold of anyone for some more. Not my best moment.
Taking 36 shots didn’t have nearly the effect on me that I thought it would. I figured I’d be out of my gourd, but all that happened was that I got a stomach ache about an hour later. Shit, I could have handled more, but the espresso machine will barely pump those shots out fast enough to have more than that in half an hour. I had to get the first ten poured and ready to go before we even started the clock. They were pretty cold by the time I got started and I slammed all ten to my face right off the bat just to get off to a good start. No milk, no water. Just 36 shots of espresso.
Does anyone have one of those Keurig one cup coffee makers, or something similar?
Probably going to be a hearty ‘no’ from you people that should just have an IV of coffee hooked up and call it good :-p
But I’ve heard good things about them so seeing if anyone can vouch for it.

A Keurig maker? Hell no. I use two French presses. One for the coffee, and one for the coffee that I use to brew the coffee. That’s right folks, double-brewed coffee.

At work, they give it out for free. Id say theyre good but ti really depends on what brand you get like Newmans own,Caribou,Green Mountain, ect., The only thing I dont like about it is that since its in a small package already,if you dont fill up a 12 oz cup then you just wasted one. Id say its pretty damn convenient though because you dont have to buy filters and take the tiem to measure stuff. I wouldnt buy one though. I like coffee but not enough to spend 200 bucks on a machine.
viet coffee or cuban coffee pretty much the same… basically its expresso…
viet style is with condensed milk, cuban is sugar and milk…
