Were you wearing a ring? My dad was screwing around with his boss and acting like he was going to punch in his drivers side window, he even pulled the punch but his ring hit it and the window exploded.

That’s just because you didn’t start the T-Nation windowbreaker challenge thread.

Don’t care. Go back to training Van Damme, when you feel ready try a car window.
It’s not that hard.
OMG GOD HOW CAN YOU BREAK SHATTER-READY GLASS BY STRIKING IT!?! GLASS IS HARD LIKE STEEL. OMGZORZ.
People of lesser than power lifter strength smash boards, people of lesser than power lifter strength smash bricks. I hardly think glass should ignite this much controversy.
If this were one of those new plasticky Prius windows, then I cold see your suspicion. We are talking about the glass of an early 90s vehicle. Not that big a deal man. Grow up.
I dont believe a window cant be punched out. I just dont believe YOU did it here.
Instead of giving a brief history of the glass manufacturing process, just take a picture of your dainty hands.

I will relay this story as briefly as possible.
I was walking outside today, on the walkway by my driveway mind you. Suddenly a car pulls up at high speed into my drive way and is deliberately heading right for me. It is slanted to intentionally come at me. I have no choice but to jump out of the way which causes me excruciating pain, because my ankle is badly sprained. In this fear and pain, I go into fight or flight mode. In a split second decision, I realize I have to disable the driver as flight is impossible. I go into rage mode. I bash the car’s passenger window in, unlock/open the door, and begin entering the car and grabbing the man. I am broken out of my tunnel vision to find it to be my dumbass roommate yelling at the top of his lungs at me.
Eventually yelling subsides and he admits that apparently he was trying to play a joke on me by making me have to jump out of the way of his car. He is pissed that I overreacted by breaking his window in to enter his car and then beginning to physically incapacitate him. However, he admits that his expectation was for me to be pissed off and then laugh it off or something. He stupidly forgot (maybe?) that my ankle is sprained. I helped him clean up the mess and offered to duct tape and plastic wrap it up. He refused and insists I owe him a new window.
Do I owe this guy a window?
I’ve thought this over, and I don’t think so. I wasn’t angry at the guy, it was purely a self-defensive maneuver. After I realized it was him, I apologized and helped him clean up. However, it is not due to my own negligence nor has it ever been my intent to damage his car. I harbor no ill will to him. At the same time, this action was only precipitated by his intent to piss me off and make me hop out of the way, and his negligence in forgetting my ankle was jacked up.
Had he not tried to fool me into thinking he would hit me with his car, I never would have come to harm his vehicle. He brought this event onto himself, end of story.
I am not trying to be a selfish prick here, but from my POV, the only one who acted with malicious intent (to frighten) and negligence (forgetting I was injured) was him. He had his window broken due to my self defense, I was inflicted a great deal of physical pain due to his prank which caused an aggressive reaction. I owe him nothing, if not a swift kick in the ass.
Do you think my view is correct?
Some background below
He is a roommate of 1 year and 2 months, we just moved out of our old apartment and I got a new house with some friends. I am letting him stay with us for a month (plus a little more if he needs it) because he is strapped for funds and needs to save up before he moves somewhere else closer to his work.
I am renting him a room at 60% rate to help him out.
I sprained my ankle very bad at a Halloween party from an idiotic accident. He is aware that I am injured, and lent me his ankle brace to recover. Indicating he is aware.
We’ve lived together had our ups and downs but I have been very supportive and helpful to him (hence why I am letting him stay with me now). He hasn’t really reciprocated as much as I’d like but I think the right thing to do is to help people if you can.
bad decision to go into “rage mode”. forcing unlawful entry into someones vehicle is not self defense. you did not know if was him, for all you knew it could have been an accident. lets say that it was an accident and someones accelerator got stuck or power steering broke on their vehicle, you would have then forced unlawful entry into someones vehicle. you could have been shot.
I think it’s less a case of “Rage mode”, more a case of “You made me look bad, Do you know who the fuck I am?” mode.

If you took it to court, I bet it would go this way-
He didn’t hit you, so there was no crime or act of negligence.
You did hit him. Therefore, you owe him money for the damage to his car. If the police were called it would have been an assault committed by you, and you would owe restitution for damage which occurred in the commission of a crime.
He might have been a jerk for doing that, but you are an idiot for responding with violence, and there is no way you come out of this clean.
Pay up.

So if someone shoots at me, but they miss and I retaliate, I’m the criminal according to you?
If a guy tries to hit me with his car (on purpose), but I dive and avoid it, there’s no crime at all here?
I don’t think this is logical at all.

There may be a crime. But what does vigilantism have to do with it?
Self defense =/= vigilantism

What? The thread about the vigilante is somewhere else.
I wouldn’t pay him. I’d throw him out of the house and tell him that he’s lucky that’s all I’m doing

Otherwise, he wouldn’t be posting on TN.
Nevermind.
With Bonez on this one. There are a zillion different things that you could take a picture of to lend some credibility to this, most notably your hand. But I’d settle for maybe some shattered glass on the ground/in the car. Or a picture of a windowless honda civic maybe. Or maybe just a picture of a leg brace. Or a picture of any car. Trolls don’t seem to have the ability to take pictures, so if you just take a picture of anything, you might be believable.
Rohnyn wrote:

Yes you do.
In cases like this where one person, goes into fight or flight, the crime is still punished the court just looks at intent for the degree of punishment. If you would have pulled him out of his car and killed him and then plead innocent the court may drop the crime from murder to manslaughter based off malice intent buy your ass would still be on the DA’s check list.
Next time use your higher brain functions to think through a situation before you act. I realize you think you went into rage mode but something tells me you have a problem with anger that you don’t like to admit. In humans the “rage” people feel washes over them in a sudden burst but in your post you had time to physically distinguish what was coming at you(a car), realize the intent of the driver(to scare you) and how to access the driver(break a window and unlock the door). This all sounds like a couple seconds of brain function but the ability of the cerebellum to seize control from the brain stem takes less then one second.
So that is criminal court but what about civil? In civil he only need to prove you broke the window which you already admit you did so just pay for it and go back to being friends.

No need for pics. It was only a Honda.
I once knocked out a Regal Buick for looking at me the wrong way, Right cross on the drivers side. Knocked the battery clean out.
No lie Look it up.

Wikipedia says Regal Buicks run on hamster power. Thus, no battery. Your story does not hold up.

NO!
If your already Limping and then restrained a ankle diving out the way of a car speeding up your driveway, rage is 100% believable.
Out of the whole story that part would make the MOST sense.

The Hamster wears a Walkman that needs 2 AA batteries. Check your facts before calling me out BRO.

I’m totally picturing you punching a car, and a hamster with a walkman flying out of it, while the batteries fly in a different direction. It’s awesome.
You owe him a severe beating.
Maybe two.
