Do I Owe this Guy $$?

You’ve lived with this guy for a year and change yet you cannot recognize him or his car? I’m guessing since he has no cash for his own spot yet then he hasn’t bought a new car during your time knowing each other…

This is bullshit broski…you do owe him a window. Breaking it? Why? If you were already on the side of the car that means you were out of danger unless his car moves side to side?

How in the hell does an injured man break plexiglass or whatever that material windows are made of?

Don’t bring your letting him stay with you for a lower than normal rent into this as an exuse not to pay…that’s called taking advantage of someone. You set up this agreement long before and it has nothing to do with the window situation.

You have a serverely sprained ankle? And you had to borrow a roommates brace? You didn’t see a doctor for this agonizing injuryto get your own brace? If you had, he probably would have ttold you to not go strolling about for no reason on such a wounded ankle.

So stupid…you were on the side of a stopped car with a person you should easily recognized inside it. Dude was probably wearing a playful smile on his face until you bashed in his window and tried killing him.

I speed at my friends every now and then and stop short…it is funny. If something like this happened id fully expect them to pay for half of the damages.

You’re ridiculous

I wouldn’t recognize a car I know if it came fast and stuff.

Plus, what if you know it’s your roommates car? “Ah, I’ll just let him hit me, he lives with me anyways”.

Fuck no!!!

How is this even a question??

Tell this retard to fuck off & get yourself some less imbecillic friends.

No, I would understand that there’s no need to panic if I saw a roommate driving toward me speeding. Id even play chicken with him.

Id go

Hmmm green civic driving toward my house? Oh its my roommate

I wouldn’t go

Ahhhhhh its a suicide driver.

You shouldn’t pay him, but how is it ‘defensive mode’ after the danger has already passed?

Um, I’m talking about those moments when you’re approaching the car and bashing in the windshield.

Don’t get me wrong, the dude in the car deserved to have windshield bashed. But the claim that he didn’t know it was his roommate seems odd to me.

That’s why he said tunnel vision. Once I had this situation where I went straight for someone and I crossed the road without looking, didn’t hear my friend telling me to not go, to stop, etc. All that was filtered out.

Only it was the passenger window which means with a stopped car there was no more danger…

So… he could’ve had killed you… and he says YOU owe him money?

Beat the crap out of him, or, better yet, sue his ass off. He’s an imbecile. That’s attempted homicide. Or did I get it wrong?

You got it wrong. For a few reasons

Hulk not impressed by rage.

I think your story is BS, and I think you know it, which is why you felt obliged to give us a sob story about your ankle and cutting him a deal on the rent. The guy played a joke on you, you got pissed and totally overreacted. There’s no way you didn’t know it was him.

You should split the window. He should pay half for being a jackass, you should pay half for being a hulked out moron.

You remind me of Mr. Furious (Ben Stiller) in the movie Mystery Men – the part where he pounds his fists on Casanova’s Corvette limo.

But no, you don’t owe the guy money.

Depends. What country/state do you live in?
Omaha, Nebraska
Mettahl wrote:
Fuck that, it’s his fault.
…If so, is your roommate a different ethnicity than you?
I am South American and he is Turkish.

It was late at night 11pm, no lights outside except for his car lights.
I figured it was him in peripheral but when the car started speeding towards me, I freaked out because I didn’t know.
I thought it might be some crazy fuck trying to hurt me cuz I fucked his gf or something. Had no idea, scared the shit out of me.

That was my original offer, he refused it, never admitted to being a dumbass nor apoligized for causing my ankle pain.
After reading more consideration, I rescinded my ofer to meet him half way.

Tell him you’ll press charges if he even considers making you pay for the window.

He could have killed you, I would have likely hit him anyway.

If you took it to court, I bet it would go this way-

He didn’t hit you, so there was no crime or act of negligence.

You did hit him. Therefore, you owe him money for the damage to his car. If the police were called it would have been an assault committed by you, and you would owe restitution for damage which occurred in the commission of a crime.

He might have been a jerk for doing that, but you are an idiot for responding with violence, and there is no way you come out of this clean.

Pay up.

My thoughts exactly. Even if it was late at night, once you are out of danger, calm down. It’s more his fault, but you aren’t innocent. At least give him a small portion of the bill. It’s the gentleman thing to do. If he won’t take it, then fuck him.

If the story is exactly as it happened, surely it could be seen as reckless driving and putting his life in danger - joke or not.

People have sued and won for less.
