so my GP was alarmed by my test levels and reffered me to a urologist who basically told me that im SOL and do NOT have low test. I requested a copy of my bloods and this is all i got back…
free t: 8.7 pg/mL normal range 8.8-27.0
total t: 455 ng/dL normal ramge 280-800
i am 20 years old and feel all the symptoms of low t, NOO sex drive, low energy, irritability, etc
im no expert but CLEARLY my free t levels are on the very low end of the spectrum…
Well, for starters, you need to get more labs done. Get LH, FSH, E2, Prolactin, basic thyroid labs (TSH, free T4 and free T3), basic adrenal function labs (DHEA-S and Cortisol) and CBC and Lipid panel. Read the “lab work” sticky for more info.
Basic information about yourself. Diet, exercise routine, OTC or RX drugs you take/have taken, temperatures, etc. Read the “advice for new guys” sticky for more info.
Yo do seem to have low FT but your TT seems OK to function properly. This could be due to high SHBG. Sometimes high E2 can cause SHBG to raise.
Nothing more conclusive can be said with the amount of lab work provided. You would be wise to get more (the suggested) tests done and inform yourself about their meaning, interpretation and implications before you consider treatment options. This whole TRT matter is highly complex and many variables need to be considered.
Start the learning process and come back with more complete information. People here are very eager to help if you provide enough tools for a relevant analysis. Realize that it is you who’s in charge of the whole process.
Please CAREFULY read the advice for new guys sticky. A lot to absorb.
Most of your TT is bound to SHBG [see that sticky] and then TT is not a good measure of your T status. Your low FT is reason enough for treatment. But, you need to see your low T as a symptom and find and correct the cause. Provide lots of info about you as per the sticky and we will try to find something to fix instead of treating the symptom.
Urologist and endo’s are typically very ignorant about these things [idiots]. There is a sticky for finding a TRT doc. But if you to place that does a lot of TRT, they may miss the problems and that can be a problem too. Help us, tell us where you are located.

I will read the stickys and get those blood tests done asap. someone on another forum suggested to run clomid for a month would this be a risk free option to consider with only the info we have now?
i will read the stickys and get those blood tests done as soon as i can. one suggestion i got was to run clomid for a month and that should raise my levels. would this be a good option based on the limited blood info we have?
As you will learn, there are indeed some instances where this approach could be used (although more often as a diagnosis tool and not actual treatment) but you need to have the lab work done before considering this. You need to establish whether your problem is your testicles or your pituitary. Lab work will help the diagnosis. Clomid is also not risk free since there are side effects to it’s use.
Don’t run clomid yet at all!!! Read the stickies and get the labs for ksman. What time were these labs taken? Your urologist has no business telling you that ur sol and he has no business taking care of ur hormones generally this is and endocrinologists job but you may be best off to find a trt doc.
Your doc was alarmed then he knows something is off… Ask him for more blood work as per the lab tests and bloodwork sticky and maybe a referral to an endo to start. You most Likely have underlying issues and it is very important to find out what they are. read all the stickies starting with advice for new guys.
