Digestive Enzymes

Do any you guys on here take digestive enzymes? Im planning on buying some and was wondering some recommendations of comments.
Thanks.

Just be sure to buy an enzyme that states that it is a multiZyme. Papaya enzymes are a good choice. However I would look for an enzyme with full spectrum benfits

I use Omegazyme, Dr. Berardi approved. Definitely worth the price of around $20 per bottle.

eating Yoghurt and pineapple and papaya is a great option as well.

Please tell me if im wrong but I thought
that our cells were not able to digest polymers(like enzymes) and that to be absorbed they had to be broken down into monomers.

Im not saying that taking enzymes is a waste of time it’s just that your not “using” the enzyme as it is, you are breaking it down then reasembling it into whatever your body needs.

This is kinda a stupid post because that basically what we do with all food… but I just thought I would point it out since most people seem to think that these enzymes just go straight to your stomach and start catalyzing reactions.

The best digestive enzymes are broad spectrum plant based. Enzymes which meet this criteria are superior because they can start to work in the acid pH of the stomach something which is not true of the usual enzyme products.

There are several products which meet this criteria, though the one I’ve had the best luck with is similase by tyler brand…though the brand name has changed and is now…integrated therapeutics (tyler was bought by a conglomerate).

i’m a fan of apple cider vinegar myself. it tastes like ass until you get used to it, but it is great for digestion and general health. plus it is dirt cheap as it isn’t the new, trendy, “super sup” on the market.

google it.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I had my eye on these enzymes: www.nutritiongeeks.com/super-enzymes

I’ve searched and read that Berardi suggests to use enteric coated tablets, which these are.

Im sure the Omegazyme are probably top of the line. But I want to see what you guys think of the ones I was looking at. Thanks

I’ve started using something called Gr8-Dophilus from NOW nutrition. I bought it because I’ve had a horrible winter as far as illness goes. This is supposed to boost your immune system. But it’s a probiotic formula and I believe it does so by working on the digestive system. Most of the immune system’s in the gut. If anyone knows differently, and this should not be considered a digestive enzyme, feel free to correct me.

It’s not a digestive enzyme.
At large doses it might give you bowel problems.

For digestion you need HCL at good levels in the stomach to cause the gallbladder to excrete bile to nutralize acid in S.I. .

The pancreas puts in it’s enzymes at the same time, a little lower.
To much acid enzymes don’t work as well.

Gr8-Dophilus,sometimes does help boost good bacteria levels, and there for immune function.

actually, they are supposed to start help with the break up of the food in your stomach. remember that your digetive tract is basically a tube from your mouth to your ass.

food goes to the stomach where it is broken down by the enzymes and acids into absorbable forms. the sole use for the enzymes is for maximal digestion of food to obtain nutrients. this is why it is very important that the stomach is secreting these enzymes or a replacement is taken.

the point is not for them to get absorbed and they are usually stable in the conditions they are used in. problem is you end up crapping them out and thus need more.

Ive been taking Papaya Complete (a GNC brand) and it feels like its working. Less gas, less upset upset stomach, no acid reflux, and gentlier digestion.

For milk, I take some Bromelein and acidopholus culture. No gas, better digestion, and no aftertaste.

To all the thoughts and posts regarding enzymes, if you buy a reputable brand, you will be fine, and the multi’s are best, since they help digest almost all foods. And most of the posts have good products listed, they will all help to some degree.
As far as the acidolphilus, it is a necessary “good bacteria” that aids in digestion and normal function. If you take an anti-biotic, it gets rid of bacteria from the system, but doesn’t discriminate between good and bad. This is where the acidolphilus comes in. And also, keep the acidolphilus refrigerated, it is live cells that die at room temperature!
