Get a travelroller. Cruel, evil tempered thing. Do 25 rolls a day on each quad, IT band and glute. Watch in amazement as pain reduces.
Sitting and the hip flexor is the devil on knees.
Also, more hamstring work = bueno.

of course I’ve considered it.
I would have skipped straight to this part saving myself from the years of grief but it’s very expensive.
We’re a military family andI’m a stay at home mama= 1 paycheck household here.
We’ve worked really hard to pay down a bunch of debt over the last couple years…which is why we are finally in a position for me to be able to go outside the network of crappy Dr.s and pay for it ourselves.
The Dr. I’m seeing now is just as good as a naturopath, etc. She practices all that as needed. You can read about her here if you like.

Looks like you are in good hands…just when I see the word “medications”…I cringe a lot…
medications= hormones.
Just like if you were low in testosterone, you would do a natural HRT.
Part of the stuff I take IS natural. Desiccated pig hormones, yummy! And cytomel which is the hormone T3…my body isn’t making it, so I have to add it back in.
FK- I have a decent sized PVC pipe! Pain is minimal as long as I don’t do anything that causes pain. blargh
I was told the cartlidge(sp) in my knees is so badly worn so anything I do that creates friction or high impact stuff causes inflammation, pain and swelling for days. But I can still work on the other stuff too.

wipes brow That’s reassuring…at least you are making sure you have your daily intake of bacon! LOL
You’re tough as nails to be workout out with all of this going on. I’m adding 5 stars to your five stars. You now have 10 ![]()
Tough or dumb? heh
Thanks!
Hey Mims I made my own foam roller from a found pvc pipe and a piece of a cheap yoga mat. Just taped it to the pipe.
like [photo]36054[/photo] stops it from slipping around.
The duct tape at the end was because the mat wasn’t long enough and the edges were a bit jagged. ![]()
ooh! good idea!! That’s about the size of my pipe too.
This log is almost dead.
Feel’s like I’m still digging to get my way through. On the verge of breaking through. (new log name??) ![]()
Been doing more reading about the combo of hormones(meds, drugs) whatever you want to call them that I’m taking and I don’t think I’ve got it right just yet.
I also feel like just because this Dr I’m seeing now is great…I shouldn’t be naive enough to take everything she says at face value without questioning her ideas for MY HEALTH. I trust her and feel more comfortable with her than anyone else but I still need to be doing my own research!
I’m also trying my best to come up with a plan to manage my ailments and strengthen my weaknesses.
When do you do this rolling stuff? before/after?
I’ve never paid attention til now.
I’ve also read that rolling all the time can be bad in a way because you become too reliant on it or something crazy like that.
It also looks like a lot of work and takes time to learn how to do it right. I always feel goofy rolling and slipping all over the place! haha
I have to strengthen my hips/low back/glutes. My left side is weaker which is why I think my left knee is worse off.
Although none of this has been mentioned by my Ortho guy or when I was going through PT.
So that’s where I’m at.
Any ideas to help me form this plan are welcome and appreciated.

First, bravo on being your own Velma from Scooby Doo…yes, yes, yes - always due your own due diligence and question everything. When I read that you were doing this, I wanted to jump on my computer desk and shout, “That’s what I’m talkin’ about!” LOL
Log Name: Breakin’ Though…no doubt…this is your time…
Thirdly, I was digesting what you typed and I am leaning more to suggesting the book “The 4 Hour Body” by Timothy Ferriss. Why? The chapter called “Pre-Hab” outlines working out the body’s physical weaknesses in order to prevent future injuries and muscular imbalances. Exercises like Turkish Get-Ups, Chop and Lifts, and Single Leg Deadlifts with DBs have been a real challenge for me yet help me to address my weak sauce.
Thoughts?
I’ll look into that book…and it’s on Kindle! sounds good.
I never thought I needed to do all this extra stuff. Maybe I was thinking ‘well, I deadlift squat etc. I don’t need anything else because those things WILL make me stronger.’ But only made me weaker??
Should EVERYONE be doing extra stuff for singular parts??
nobody wants to be the one to kill this log!
Ugh I’m behind! Vitamin D deficient y is e,tremely common and it is because SS stay out of the sun and because soil is so fucking shitty now that foods are nutrient deficient so don’t read too much into the D deficiency. Just start taking 10,000 IU a day.

Holy shit, really? I take like 2000 a day and I thought that was tons.

This little itty bitty stuff is what keeps your body from flying apart. It works all the tiny stabilizing factors (especially for your knees & shoulders!!) and loosens your body up for the big lifts. My knees have NEVER felt better than they do right now. A few knee rehab movements and glute bridges warm my body up and wakes up all the little muscles that SHOULD fire in order to do the big lifts properly. It’s why I do Agile 8 (and Simple 6 occasionally). It’s all pre-hab. Active recovery.
I think everyone should be doing a little bit of something in this area just to keep their body moving.

Depends on your nationality and time of year, especially up where we live. I range from taking 2000-5000 IU depending on if I’m training that day or not. I could probably take more and get away with it.
I guess I’m welcoming myself to the, um what century are we in??
I think back to old school strongmen and bb’ers etc and try to picture them doing glute bridges and external rotations or rolling around the floor trying to massage themselves.

Holy crap, 10,000?? To start?? Or work your way up there? I’ll ask the Doc. Just gonna be straight forward with her because I feel comfortable enough to ask her anything and I know she won’t dismiss me or make rude comments.
Also, Hall- have you seen this book?? It makes me feel better about my Docs addition of the T3…I think it’s the armour that is crappy.

If this log dies, I will see you all on the other side. It’s been a wild ride so far but still hangin on! Thanks for all your continued support!!

Re: Vitamin D…I agree that the amount will be based on individuality and culture…as a Black man, I take 10,000 I.U. and also the fish oil I take squeaks out some Vitamin D too.
Definitely check with your Guru…

Are you deficient? Have you had your D tested? I wouldn’t tell any random person to take 10k, but MINd is deficient and being tested by her doctor to track deficiencies. Some docs script 50k IU per day! Again though only to address tested deficiency… And retesting for improvements.
I like your new possible log title!
Foam rolling. I do it all the time. Totally dependent on it. Is it bad? I dunno. Sometimes it feels wrong that I think, “god I can’t wait to get home and get on my foam roller.” And I spend more time rolling around with my foam roller than my husband… But so?! It makes my tissues happy.
I don’t foam roll certain parts enough (eg ITB, which I need to do more) but I always find time for my back. I need to find a small roller to take on holiday. Or I might just take my two hockey balls in a sock and hope the airport staff don’t think I’m going to use it as a weapon!
