Dig Through the Ditches

Thanks.

Did you also feel absolutely wiped out? I took two naps yesterday was in bed by 745pm, slept til 630am and still feel cruddy.

I’ll be ok. back to the couch!

Glad you’re able to take it easy. I hope you feel better soon.

I think I’m feeling better. Not as woozy but still tired. But that’s not new. I slept a whole a 9 hours interrupted and still tired.

At least the back pain has let up.
I may go for a walk in a bit so I don’t feel so lazy. Maybe try my bike later.
I feel doughy. I’ve eaten nothing but pretzels the last few days

get it? haha

Glad you’re feeling better MiM’s.

Betty, I’m sorry to hear that things have been rough for you health-wise.

About the knee, you just need better doctoring by a real sports medicine guy who is actually an athlete him/her self. Bone on bone is NOT a life sentence to the couch.

It will get better, beautiful.

Its both knees, but whos counting.

Oh, believe me, I’m not using this as a reason to be sidelined. If anything it has made me feel more grateful for the things that I CAN do still. And I’m getting excited about how jacked my upper body will finally be. (only joking, kinda)

The issue about finding the right Dr, etc, is that I am limited by who is in our insurance network. Sure I could pay out of pocket, otherwise, but really, we can’t. I have to work with what I’ve got.

I am compiling a list of questions for my follow up appt with this guy. I’m already doing research about other available Docs, so if I don’t like what I hear then I can request to go elsewhere. But that gets tricky considering our location. It’s an easy 2-3 hours one way to see Docs in Baltimore/DC/VA.

Not making excuses, just tellin it like it is.

You always impress me with your attitude to keep looking for ways to move forward. You have a strong will. I’m pulling for you.

Just wanted to wish you luck with everything! Thinking of you! "This too shall pass! " Looking forward to reading about your incredible recovery and future gains!

Hey MiM, thanks for checking on me, I am sorry life is being tough right now. Glad the back pain has let up a bit.
I have a friend who had some knee surgery and her knee is bone on bone too. Doc said she could squat if she wanted to but it would probably be painful going down. Well she is stubborn and is still squatting though not as heavy.

During her rehab doc said bike was the best thing cuz the bones would wear in such a way as to smooth out the roughness?

I need to check in on her and ask specifically how her knee is doing… I think it’s been about year now.

Hang in there girl.

sorry to hear that you werent feeling well MiM! Get better soon

Hey MiM, hope you are feeling better. I was lying around for a week after the I was given the IV. Took awhile for my strength to come back. I’m glad to hear from others that this ‘bone on bone’ doesn’t stop everyone.

I just stopped by to catch up and check in on ya. And omg. So much stuff going on here!

Hope you’re feeling better. And that totally sucks about the knees.

Cal’s suggestion about water aerobics was a good one. I spent some time at an aquatics center for people with special needs (children with disabilities, older adults, and people doing PT) and some did that stuff. You can get a workout in the water without actually swimming (treading water, “running” in floaties).

It might be harder to up the intensity for someone who is already fit, but its actually pretty fun. And I always thought those exercises in the nice warm pool felt good when I was sore from lifting.

Thanks everyone <3 <3 <3

feelin better but feelin frustrated.

Went to the gym and it was blahhhh.
Tryin to stay positive. This weather sure isn’t helping.

LP- sorry for your friend.
Right now I’m just trying to get over the fact that the grinding I feel is my bones. It freaks me out. on occasion I try to squat, but it hurts :frowning: :frowning:
the Cybex squat press machine is pretty good, but I still have days where even that hurts. It sucks.

BG and Cal- sounds great…but honestly? I don’t picture myself doing water aerobics. I’ll try anything once. (mostly)

So I’m thinking of a new splity-split:

M- hams/glutes/back
tues- chest/tris
W- PT/cardio
Thursday- hams/glutes/back
Fri- PT/shoulders/biceps
Sat??- cardio/whatever else isn’t sore
Sun- off

20-30 min cardio after weights. Come March time frame I’ll start adding in extra cardio in the evening. Hopefully by then my thyroid will be all better anyway, and the idea would be for these elusive 20 lbs hangin out, to go bye bye.

At best I have managed to maintain my weight this year which is good.

Considering your thyroid problems, maintaining weight is a major win.

my heart sank when i read about the results of your knee scan :frowning: you really do have pretty bad luck when it comes to that kind of thing :frowning:
you have amazing strength and resilience, though. been making great gains towards your goals.

maintaining weight with your thyroid issues is indeed a major win.

MiM- Really sorry to hear about you getting that infection and the knee problems.

New split looks pretty good IMO. I’m assuming the lack of quad work is from knee pain from leg extension?
Sorry if this has been suggested (or if you’ve tried it already), but have you tried seeing if wearing knee sleeves makes quad work any more tolerable?

Thanks girls.

Blaze- yes your right about the lack of extension. It sucks. The bike doesn’t hurt! I got the idea from Chad W. I crank the resistance all the way up and push through. I’m up to 5 minutes and I do that most days after weights. It burns pretty good and it’s supposed to build the quads. I’m not wasting away yet, so we’ll see. I will do backward tire drags as extra cardio as well. I’ll bring up the knee sleeve idea with my PT and ortho guy. Just trying to take it easy and do my prescribed exercises at least.

m-i-M, have you ever tried trap bar deads for quads? The motor pattern is more squat than deadlift, but you stand more upright than normal squats and can pretty much take the eccentric out of the movement. I’ve done em in the past and they were easier on my knees than squats.
