Diet Soda=Dehydration=Ripped Look?

Ok, please, no flames! I understand this is a potentially combustible topic.

I’m asking this because I heard it from a friend who used to do some amateur bodybuilding work. He said that the night before a show, some people will drink a couple diet sodas and stop drinking water. Due to the dehydrating effect of both the sodas and lack of water, they have a slightly more “ripped” look the next day.

I know this is not congruent with our views of optimal heatlh. Nor is this something I would try often. but does anyone have any factual evidence, or experience, to either substantiate or refute this?

The reason I’m asking is that as of tomorrow night I’m officially a stripper, and I wanna look as good as I can. Obviously, looking that much more ripped (I’m pretty lean already), will get me that many more tips. I should note, I’m only doing it part time… like once a week or so, at least for now, so this isn’t something I’d probably consider doing often (the dehydration thing I mean), as I’m still much too concerned with my overall health, than my looks.

“Peaking” for stripping? This is an article unto itself.

But yes, the day after drinking a lot of diet soda I always looked dryer.

I believe there are much more efficient ways to dry out. Perhaps a more informed poster will be able to shed some light on more techniques.

Thanks, the article was very informative!

I recall mike mentzer saying that he used to sip wine for it’s diuretic effects. I’m not sure exactly how strong wine would be, but figured I’d throw it out there.

I hope you make the weigh-in.

Sure, that’s what they all say…

Alcohol inhibits ADH (anti-diuretic hormone) so the kidneys don’t reabsorb water. It’s why you drink one beer and seem to pee out two.

I think that liquor would be best for promoting dehydration, since with wine or beer you are also imbibing more water than with, say, a shot of liquor-the higher proof the better.
