My previous thread got deleted.
I’m currently on a 12 week clean bulk doing a targeted carbs approach, and doing CT’s Beast Building Program. I logged today on fitday and my breakdown is:
Calories: 3,793
Fat: 125
Carbs: 125
Protein: 521
I weigh 215, I’m 6’1", and my bf is ~15%. My carbs are usually less than 50, but I trained today and my Surge Recovery has 50 grams of carbs in it.
I greatly appreciate any help or suggestions I can get.
Thanks guys.
Yeah, too much protein. Why are you avoiding carbs?
If you can eat it and stick to it looks fine.
My issue with that much protein is putting it away. Its hard to eat that much high protein sources, and supplementing over 100 grams is a questionably a good idea at best.
I’ve been reading a lot lately about how carbs are unnecessary, especially because I’m trying to trim some fat off. I eat veggies, but no grains or potatoes.

You said that you were bulking… carbs are necessary for glycogen and intensity in the gym. I forgot about you and your posts.
I’m done here.
120 g of that protein is from shakes. But, without the shakes I would be 600 cals short and starving!

Man, I have come a long way since that first post! I am taking in carbs after every lift session and throughout the day from vegetables.
The idea that all carbs are bad is kind of absurd. Yes carbohydrate restriction is a good way to lose fat. Yes everyone probably needs less carbs. But carbs are also essential for energy and brain function. They help your body produce serotonin (which you need) and give you energy for your workouts. I’m not saying to start eating loaves of wonder bread but carb phobia can be a little annoying.
No one ever got fat from eating a little quinoa or some sweet potato.
It might be easier to choose between fat loss and bulking at the current moment. Right now your diet has the calories of a bulk but the macros of a cut. Yeah it could work but it’d be a helluva lot easier to cut down and do a clean bulk later or stop worrying about fat until you get the size you want.
Putting back that much extra protein is a waste of money. If you’re using shakes to get extra calories do your wallet a favor and swap them for fats or carbs. Olive oil, Ezekiel bread, and whole grain pasta cost a hell of a lot less than protein powder.

in my honest opinion, it sounds like you have a mild eating disorder.
but don’t worry, you certainly aren’t the only one on this board who does (including myself)
i want you to repeat this mantra: “carbs don’t make me fat, calories do. carbs don’t make me fat, calories do. carbs don’t make me fat, calories do.” etc…
listen man, it is OK to eat carbs (yes, even refined carbs) outside of the postworkout window. they don’t magically make you fat unless you are in a caloric surplus. the same can be said for ANY macronutrient.
the more people get this through their head, the faster people will start making progress.
and yeah, your protein is really fucking high. lower it to 1g/lb or therabouts.
I’ personally lower protein some, and increase fat and carbs
125g of carbs, that sounds fun
i’m another one who typically has a very high protein diet. what i’ve done is to make sure i have enough fiber and i also use digestive enzymes.
you might wanna think about re-feed days so you can replenish your glycogen after a week or so of low carbs.
EDIT: but at the same time I like the idea of going on a LOW protein diet every so often. I will be going very very low protein (25-75g) for a few weeks in May when I go on vacation. Very similar to the approach that Thibs took when he went on his trip a bit ago.
