Diet Help for Rugby

Ren, you’re dead on!!!

PWO there are physical changes/adaptations at a cellular level. The muscle cells are better able to take up carbs, more so than any other time of the day. The muscle cells are more sensitive to insulin (a good thing) and less insulin needs to be produced and more glucose is taken up by the cells, which means less/no glucose ends up spilling over to fat. It’s a time you SHOULD be taking in your starchier carbs, since they’re lower in fiber and you can eat more of them.

You’re right, too, about keeping fat as close to zero in those meals.

Post-cardio and post-lifting are the only times I take in my starchier carbs; green veggie at all other times. But that’s because my goals are to lose BF. The rules change when you want to bulk and are trying to stuff a lot of food down your face. (grin)
