Diet and Skin

I am fairly certain that I already follow this. I do not eat dairy, vegetable oils, or processed carbs. The only grains that I eat are steel cut oats, quinoa, brown rice, and white rice. I eat a ton of veggies/fruits/nuts.

The only part of this that I could see as a problem is the mention of “excessive protein”, which I have already started limiting to around 170g’s per day. Any thoughts?
What sort of red meat are you eating? It’s possible that it may be something to do with the farming methods used in the US - have you tried grass-fed beef or game such as venison?

It could also just be an age thing. Being female my spots would get worse at certain times, but even so I always had a few, right into my thirties. I did eat a lot of crap, though!
Yea I think I will try to focus on getting grass fed beef when I do go for red meat. It’s not like anything terrible happens, but it’s just annoying to have 1-2 blemishes pop up after devouring a steak or two.

Thanks for all of the replies.

Through my teenage years I had the normal skin problems, nothing insane. I am now 23 and do occasionally get a blemish or two on my face, and strongly believe that it is connected to my diet.

I have noticed that eating red meat triggers huge problems with my skin, and was wondering if anybody else has noticed such a problem or link? I avoid dairy, processed carbs, and vegetable oils, and supplement with a multi, calcium, D, fish oil, and a enzyme blend, all of which has helped my skin tremendously.

Also, I noticed that when I was mega dosing fish oil (10+ caps per day), my skin actually got worse. Apparently excess fat causes increased sebum production, which in turn can lead to skin problems.

Any thoughts on the connection between diet and skin?
Man I was in the same boat as you until recently. No matter what I did, I couldn’t figure out what was causing the skin problems. I had perfectly clear skin from 15-16 till 24, and then things just started to flare up. It wasn’t totally crazy, but just frustrating that I couldn’t clear it or find out what was causing it.

I tried to correlate it to several aspects of my diet. I found my skin was clearest when on a Keto diet, and flared up when eating carbs (especially processed). But even with this diet, it was never perfectly clear.

I went to the Doc and he prescribed me with all sorts of anti-biotics and topic creams and gels for about 2 years, and none of those worked for me.

Eventually I got a sent to see a Dermatologist at the local hospital who put me on Isotretinoin (Acutane), I was on 40mg for 4 weeks (to make sure I didn’t get any side effects or die), and then the full dose of 80mg a day for a further 16 weeks. Of course this is the last resort in treatment.

I’d suggest going to see your doc, and he/she will probably put you on a light anti-biotic like Dioxicycline with a topical cream, Benzyl Peroxide to start with and then take it from there. That is if you can’t find a cure yourself through diet or OTC products.

I am huge into natural things. a couple things for anyone facing skin problems like this: Liver cleanses, colon cleanses, juicing, coconut oil/milk, probiotics. And maybe some cayenne pepper extract (capsule form with meals). I am 25 and never get breakouts anymore.

I have insanely sensitive skin and have a similar issue.

Only with refined sugars instead of steak. I thought it was a pretty well known fact that certain foods fuck certain people up

I’ll get acne whenever I consume anything that promotes inflammation(high glycemic index carbs).
