I know you probably get tired of us Yanks telling how we got it, but that whole cc limit thing is insane to me. A kid in the US could ride an H1 on his permit if he felt so inclined. Not smart but still, it’s the principle of the matter. If your an adult at 18 and you own something, ride it.
Not trying to be an ass, it’s just a foreign concept to have displacement limits.
Firstly let me start by saying that I a not an expert on Australian motorcycle licencing. Whilst I live in Victoria and ride a motorcycle, I got my licence 30+ years ago in the UK.
This is what I know, or at least think I know:
In order to get an L plate licence you need to do an MPA, which is a 2 day course. Most centers will include bike and protective gear hire as part of this course. Once completed to can ride a 250 road bike.
No idea of a dirt bike can be converted and road registered.
Once you have your L’s after 3 months you can take your ride test and if you pass you go onto P’s. In theory you could borrow or hire a bike for this and take the test and pass with limited experience but I think that would be difficult.
