deviated septum

Hi, I just went to the nose doctor and he said I have a deviated septum. I have to have surgery on the 14th for it. I play ice hockey and I’m already out for a bit w/ a groin injury, how soon can I expect to be back on the ice? Also, will this surgery change the shape of my nose at all? It’s pretty fucked up from being hit numerous times.

The doc will want you to take it easy for a month or something but I’m sure two weeks is enough time off. I had my septum chopped on a few years ago and I was good to go in ten days or so. Just my luck that almost three weeks ago all that good surgery got rearranged. My pack mule kicked me and broke my nose so now I get to see the surgeon again. Septoplasty doesn’t change the shape of your nose much because all they’re doing is cutting out excess cartilage. If they do a full on break the bone and straighten it then you will see more of an improvement. That’s what I’m going to be getting…oh boy, I can’t wait.

I had mine fixed over the summer. It was an annoying recovery, but I was able to workout again after about 10 days, even though the doc recommended 14. No nosebleeds or anything, just eat well while recovering. Hope this helps.

Doctors have been telling me to get my deviated septum corrected for years but I keep putting it off. Can anyone who had the surgery tell me how much it improved their breathing. The way I am now I breath almost entirely thru my right nostril and I get frequently get nosebleeds in the dry winter air. But I’ve been this way I long as I remember so I have no idea what a corrected septum will do for me.

I had about a 98% blockage of the left nostril and it was almost totally fixed. I could breathe through my nose a lot better and I could smell things better, which increased my enjoyment of food. The difference was amazing.

I can’t breathe out of the right nostril most of the time, its always stuffed up. I can’t wait to breathe through both nostrils AT THE SAME TIME, what a thrill!

Could my deviated septum be causing sinus infections? I seem to get a lot of sinus infections. Other than that I’m never sick.

geez my nose is so fucked up

Yes, your deviated septum could be causing your sinus problems. In fact, it’s probably causing them. Get it fixed if it becomes too much of a problem.
