Detroit becomes Largest City in US History to File Bankruptcy

this is an example of what I will call disingenuity . On one hand all the conservatives are clamouring how America is going to hell in a hand basket . And on the other hand they are saying life has never been better for the poor . Go to an old Steel Town and tell the people in the Ghetto that life has never been better for them , I dare you :)[/quote]

There’s no doubt that there’s poor among us. There’s no doubt that there are areas in the country where a ton of shit hit the fan and people are suffering. However, on a statistical level, you can definitely make the argument that the general state of the poor is much better than it was 50 years ago–or at any other time in the country’s history–judging by material goods.

Does it make it correct? I dunno. But, the statement you are criticizing doesn’t mean every single person in the country is doing just fine–that’s a huge strawman if I’ve ever seen one.

Michigan received more subsidies than any other state along with sweetheart tax deals to those companies further eroding their tax base. Coincidence?

Sounds like a spending problem, it might be the $18 Billion in debt due to Union promises.

Don’t worry, we here will make Detroit look like a $5 debt from borrowed lunch money. Texas is stealing business from us in broad daylight.

Stealing no. Showing what low taxes and low regulations are better for business? Yes.

You’re right, I should not have used the word “steal”, maybe “offered” would have been better.

I welcome you guys to seize on the Tesla factory deal, it will be more than 6500 jobs and my understanding is that Texas is the preferred location over Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico.

Enjoy Oxy, a petroleum Company that just moved your way, after being located here for a century.

California is a beautiful state and had so much promise. Too bad illegals and liberals in power have completely destroyed that state. At this point, it needs to be wiped and started from scratch or pushed into the ocean.

Exactly…when I left in 96’ the writing was on the wall.

The filming industry is down to 30% in Hollywood, other states and countries have lured filming away with tax incentives. The problem with this is that our taxes are structured to rely on this quite heavily, so within a year or two, there will be screams to raise taxes. Problem is, we are running out of people to tax.

The Tonight Show is an example of what happens when someone offers a better deal in terms of $$$, it left Burbank for NY.

Politicians think people won’t leave if you fuck with their wallet, that is ridiculously false.

Politicians are idiots. I heard California was losing 2,000 people a week (might have been a month?) to surrounding states via their companies moving or just tired of paying the CA taxes to support all the bullshit leaches.

I just know it was mentioned that CA might start losing house reps soon because of the decline in population.

I am not sure about how many people we lose, but I would believe the idea about losing house reps.

Dems here lost their super majority in the state legislature, not due to elections, but to corruption. One was charged with 8 felonies, another has been indicted on even more felony charges, and the Speaker of the Assembly is probably going to be indicted for fraud.

The FBI wanted one of these Dems (Ron Calderon) to wear a wire and see how if he could get the governor and/or Senate President Pro Tem Darrell Steinberg. In retaliation, Calderon has been blackballed and shunned.
