I am not sure why they named the lifts like they did. I remember talking about jerking and cleaning in HS one day, and the substitute getting very uncomfortable and telling us to stop talking about it.
Well, you kind of jerk the bar off your shoulders, and you snatch it off the floor. In French the snatch is called an arrache de terre, which literally translates to ripped off the ground; while a deadlift is a souleve de terre, which is lifted off the ground. I forget what jerk is. It’s something to do with the shoulder.
I know the clean was called that because it never met with body until the shoulders (I think they took that rule out around the same time they took pressing out), so it came up clean of body contact or something. And yeah, the jerk used to be just driving as hard as possible with everything and hope for the best , and the snatch was pretty similar in that you just pulled really damn hard and split under.
But still, the names are pretty weird/suggestive these days.
Clean and jerk in French is epaule here. Literally shouldered thrown. Just remembered.

Also, I am really bad at squat jerks. Going to keep doing 85kg until I can do all 5 sets without a bad rep. I do them for precision (since even being slightly off makes it hard to save), stability, and speed under and practicing jerks without being up my upper body joints so there’s no reason to push bad reps in exchange for weight.
Yep, wrist needs a week off. I Guess I’ll have a week off from the lifts/overhead work and front squatting while it’s inflammation and I still have full range of motion instead of it being a tear/sprain or worse and I’ve lost mobility.

Used a wrist wrap on my wrist for squats, didn’t feel look it gave any support (not that there should be any weight on my wrist other than whatever is going on with me gripping down tight and flexing my lats and traps), it did give some comfort/warmth which was appreciated and my wrist felt good taking it off.

Yeah, today kinda crept up on me. Ended up finishing assignment at 11 then almost immediately got a call from my mom that she got hit while driving, then found out later my uncle had a stroke.

Mom is fine, she was just in hysterics (she’s been known to do that), her car got dented up a tad and insurance will probably go up despite it not being her fault. Some lad from like 400 or so miles south of here had no idea where he was going and turned into the passing lane without looking, and slammed into her passenger side door/pushed her into a turning lane.
Uncle is dying, direct family is staying over at their house for the night. I am fine though, I wasn’t really ever that close to my uncle and aunt. He’s my mom’s uncle, and had been suffering from some dementia that he/my aunt has been hiding for as long as I’ve been alive so I’ve never really gotten to know him.

Hit my bottom end goal for snatch push presses for the year. I have 8 more months left, 3 of which I have 0 stress and unlimited time. Fun things for this year are to come.
Notes on session: just felt slow and weak. Days like these happen, part of lifting especially when I am running aggressive strength work (pulling related stuff most effected because that’s what I am hitting most). I am happy I PR’d my snatch push press in this state by 20 pounds after not doing any heavy push presses or overhead squats in a little while.
Also I shouldn’t play with feet positioning. I snatch and clean best with a wide stance, no need to change what I’ve already spent like a year doing.
