Happy birthday man! Hope you have/had a good day
Yeah man, it was pretty good.
Happy birthday!
Thanks. I got some nice crippling DOMS as a birthday present from myself to myself today.
Power jerks
215x2 for 10 sets
front squats
285x5 for 5 sets Squatting wirh tight, sore quads are awful
GHRs
bwx1 Hamstrings, where did you go?
bwx1
bwx1
ghr abs and single leg calves
25x8, 50x20
25x5, 50x12
25x4
Stretched, and rolled my quads out.
hip snatches
152X2 for 10 sets
snatch balance and overhead squat complex
182X2+3
182X1, had it a little backwards on the second rep and noped out of that
182X2+3
182X2+3
182X2+3
rope climbs
4 sets, didn’t get close to completing them (probably should weigh myself and see how fat I’ve gotten on the school food, likely just going to add a lot of walking with my puppy and my normal diet to cut some fat during winter break)
horizontal ring row and bicep curl superset
bwX16, 30’sX10
bwX12, 30’sX6
bwX10, 30’sX4
bwX8, 30’sX4
Rolled out my lats and some other small muscles since somehow all of that overhead and front squat work yesterday made my lats sore. I have to make sure I hit both lower back and abs tomorrow, probably heaviest 4X25 I can do on back extensions and standing ab rollouts.
Can anyone else just not seem to stand Jon North as a lifter? His form looks so fucking weird and shitty and he has so many quirks to his lifts and he is kind of underweight/has weak strength lifts, and slams the fuck out of bars.
Yet he somehow snatches my clean after having a heart attack/literally dying. I can’t understand it, but all I know is that I don’t like it. He seems like a good guy outside of lifting though (despite being a dumb ass).
Yeah, I agree. Definitely a bit odd. Conversely, I love guys like Donnie Shankle and Clarence Kennedy. They’re so meticulous and just robotic and they put up great numbers.
I honestly can’t stand the whole new-wave hip hop blasting in cal strength videos while they get psyched up for snatches and clean and jerks. There’s something sacred about just shutting up and respecting the guy on the platform in silence. Or maybe it’s just the awful music taste, my god.
Definitely, big fan of Donny and Clarence.
And I agree, I am not a big fan of the changes that have been happening in (US) weightlifting. I feel it’s partially because Weightlifting has picked up a lot of powerlifting and crossfit converts (and barbell clubs are increasingly more often held in crossfit gyms), which ridiculous psyching up and music is the norm. Probably also the whole Instagram thing with Weightlifting too.
The music taste is probably also a factor with the feeling. It’d be a lot more tolerable if it was some older stuff like Tupac, Dre, 50 cent, Biggie, Eminem, etc. Instead they’re playing shit like Kendrick to the point that you can’t even drown it out during squats with your own headphones.
There was a guy hose last name was Clark on the national team. I don’t remember if he “Clarked” all 6 attempts, or just the three to bomb. I’ve seen the video, but I could not find it to share. When your familiar with the term, and then see the video… it’s hilarious.
Shoulders a little grunpy… almost as though they are getting hit almost daily with ridiculous volume.
power cleans
90kgx2 for 10 sets
clean pause to knee + pull pause to power position + full pull
110kgx1 for 5 sets
three way shoulder
10’sx20
20’sx20
20’sx20
20’sx20
back exetensions
25x25
25x21
25x18
25x3
Gym was closing early today so couldn’t do abs
I enjoy following Shankle. He was torn up for a little bit but he shows some work every now and then and he’s not cleaning 210 anymore, but he is still strong.
Jon North is like the Jerry Springer of weightlifting. You can’t turn your head from the train wreck. I don’t know what he weighs now, but when he was “a bodybuilder” at 240… he kinda made it seems like it was just as impressive when he snatched the same weight at 85k/187#. Not to mention his untested side show of a federation…
He is a mess. He got a loan from his mom to move over to California to train full time at Cal Strength… when he was significantly older and weaker than me, and had a fucking (I think pregnamt) wife before they even said anything other than Donny saying he’d be cool with him being his training partner. They only let him stay because Donny wanted a training partner, and keeping Donny happy and on the team was worth putting up with Jon’s bullshit.
No feet power jerks
90kgx2 for 10 sets
squats
315x10 for 5 sets
Had to wait for a rack and the people that normally stay/close late weren’t there. Friday is going to be fun, hamstrings, calves, back, and shoulders, abs, and lower back after my no feet snatches and pull complexes.
Asked coach to watch my last set of squats, form stayed great the whole time (despite me looking and feeling like I was dying), need to stretch the fuck out of my hips though.
klokov conplex
205 for 5 sets
snatch push press and overhead squat
205x3+2 for 5 sets
GHRs ab wheel
bwx4, 10 kneeling
bwx4, 4 standing abs
bwx4, 2 standing
calves
Did 100 push ups. One giant rest pause set, my dog thought I was playing so I had to throw the ball like every 10 reps so he wouldn’t try to crawl underneath me and lick/paw at my face.
There are worse things he could have done…
Ehh, he’s well trained (for a puppy), so he doesn’t get into too much trouble.
Ours is the same, although she has markedly different levels of compliance between when I tell her (85 per cent) and my fiancee (50 per cent if she’s lucky).
11/13/17
Week 2/10 Day 1/6
Rack jerks
225X2 for 7 sets, failed one set because of technical reasons (accidentally jerked it forward) so I redid it
front squats
290X5 for 5 sets
GHR’s and standing ab wheel to wall
bwX2
bwX2, 3
bwX2, 3
bwX2, 2
Stretched hips and shoulders, and rolled out pecs.
Overall mediocre day to be honest. I half assed my warm up so my lockout on the power jerks wasn’t as good as it should be. Going to make it a point to do one thing for my hip, shoulder, and ankle mobility daily outside of training, during my warm ups, and during my cool downs.
