Welp, another punch the clock session, could not get warmed up for the entire workout, just chilled and couldn’t shake it, gonna store a sweatshirt here in my locker moving forward. 245 felt so-so and then the 225 down set felt like trash, so got the volume in on Incline BP, which is about as weak as a kitten, apparently.
Weight is weight, not happy with body comp, there don’t appear to be any huge changes, but the feel of it just isn’t right.
Mild bitching: Came in with my head not in it, got into it with the head varsity football coach…again…about lifting…again. The dude is just a condescending prick and he’s burning bridges with coaches and administration, and he doesn’t seem to see it, or simply doesn’t care. It sucks, because his workouts are these thrown together hodge podge of exercises that he feels like need to get done, and there are some promising athletes that are making gains in strength and size, but I genuinely feel that he is hampering their progress by not teaching them good, solid form early enough, and then whoever gets them next (namely me when they come to my sessions) has to break their ego down to re-tool a shitty squat or bench.
Edit: One example of this: Their best running back, a 15 year old that squats damn near 400, missed one of the coach’s sessions, came to mine so he would be counted for that day’s session, and by the end told me flat out, “I’m coming to yours from now on.” I saw him for the next two days, until the football coach saw him in there, talked to him, and I haven’t seen him since.
TL:DR: D is bitching, again, about something he can’t control, again, and he let it affect his training, again, ha!

I do believe those workouts that’s below average is the ones that drives the PR’s later.
Yeah, I’ve coached Middle School football (ages 12-13/14) for the last couple years, and this year they approached me about putting a true Strength and Conditioning program together for the high school (ages 14-18) athletes.

kids age 10 - 14 are at the peak of their learning curve technically speaking, so speed drills and technique drills and they learn fast.
Teach them wisely and they’ll thank you later in life.
S&C for the elder boys seems like a dream job for us lifters… That is if they want to do it ![]()
haha yeah it is honestly pretty great. I get paid well to run a gym, I get paid well to run an S&C program, and I get paid well to coach football. It’s a tough gig, but someone has to do it

Off
Slept in (if you can call it that, ha!) and feel decent today, tired, but no soreness or anything. Hungry as all get out, and am craving some good coffee. Other than that, I guess I’m ready for a Wednesday, ha.
TBH that’s close to my base state. Definitely never sure what day it is, often never quite sure where I’m meant to be or what I’m meant to be doing and quite often no idea where I’m going and why either.
Maybe it’s because it’s school.
I coached soccer for some years. The boys that was there loved soccer. Almost on the day they turned 10 they just learned stuff very quickly.

A much better day today, was a bit tired, but showed up much more in it than the last 2-3 leg sessions. Killed the 335 rep set and wanted to take advantage of being grooved so I buried the 365 and then got buried by the 385, ha, just poor jumps 375 was there if I had taken it rather than 365. Am honestly pretty dang happy with how today went, needed a good leg session like that.
Weight: Still hanging at around 200, not sure if it is quality or not haha I’d like to think it is, but …yeah. Oh well, rolling with it for now.
So, more developments in life, awhile back I had ranted a bit about people being upset about lack of coaching, lack of participation, lack of things to do for their kids (sports wise). This is still a frustrating topic for me, but we had another instance where this happened, the district has been unable to find a coach for the freshmen boys’ basketball team and the coaching and administrative staff had approached me about it a couple months ago, I turned them down due to having an extremely full plate already, and wished them the best of luck, well they searched and searched, put out outreach notices and job notices, and nothing, no takers. They approached me again yesterday, and being the community minded individual that I am I finally caved, they then asked me if I would help with the middle school track program in my wife’s stead for the year (a one year gig) to hold her place. D’s schedule just went nuts over here, ha.
