Density Work for Building Muscle

Paul,

What do you think of density work in terms of the effective reps model you’ve been discussing? Something like 6x6 at 70% with minimal rest. You’re probably not getting many muscle building reps in the first sets, but you probably do in later sets as fatigue builds and the relative intensity increases, right?

I think the benefits of this over doing just a couple all out sets is that you get more practice at a lower intensity, which should help with form and mind muscle connection.

No.

What helps with mind to muscle connection is actually performing the movement in a way that it’s designed to move. Doing the same shitty motor patterns over and over does not improve mind to muscle connection.

Second, minimal rest is actually what causes the nervous system to become more fatigued during the training session. Which is why we’ve seen that longer rest periods between sets was more productive for hypertrophy. Because a recovered nervous system means it can fire more of the HTMU which means more fibers are activated for the exercise.

I don’t like this method at all for building muscle.

Makes sense. Thanks for the answer!
