This statement holds no validity as you do not even know me in personal life at all. Others here have met me. Maybe you should ask them. You are making some extreme judgments based on nothing but your own bias to anyone who happens to be black discussing racist topics. That has to be the only reason you are in this thread because we were discussing a topic here…not me personally at all.
Uh, yeah…that is part of the problem…especially when what you see is that different than what is actually there.
God damn it. Im gonna shit on myself from laughing so hard…or is it out of fear that the dude next to me in class is about to pop a cap in my ass?

"The Reverend Jesse Jackson was walking alone at night in Washington DC. He heard footsteps behind him and was afraid he was about to be muggedâ??which is a common occurrence in Washington, especially at night, and especially when you are alone on a street. The Reverend turned around and saw a white man. Immediately he felt relief that he was not going to be assaulted. Then he felt shame because he had just stereotyped kindred black men. He understood during that split second of observation, that he had assumed the worst of his own race;â?¦,â??

F___ing Troll Alert. There’s a difference between being informed and being opinionated.
My comment was LOL because he failed to acknowledge any role of media/society in that finding and ONLY placed the blame on “environment”. I must be typing too fast.
Actually, you are typing too fast you should slow down and think BEFORE you post.
The media (chuckle) has NOTHING to do with black on black crime.

Zeb and Tribulus you guys are talking to an air head who keeps parroting the same Al Sharpton Jeremiah Wright, Louis Farrakahn material which = HATE SPEECH. Neither he nor his father can fathom that those I named have made a $$$FORTUNE$$$ off division not diversity.

If you cannot in all seriousness see that… “Hey You Won The Battle” now let’s get to the business of making AMERICA work the way it’s supposed to and stop the ticky tac whining, then conceivably YOU are the problem.
Could you tell me the exact date “the battle was won” and everyone was treated equally the next day?
You do have a date, right?
Here’s my “remediation” … WTF is the color of the sky in your world??
You literally wrote the question “where tell me the exact date “the battle was won” and everyone was treated equally the next day?”
Only when we are dead or under a communist regime could you expect everyone to be treated “EQUALLY.” WTF don’t liberals comprehend that no where on the face of this planet do ALL humans experience EQUALITY ALL THE TIME. This land, this AMERICA comes as CLOSE as it gets.
Your idea of “battle was won” and “everyone was treated equally the next day” I suspect will only manifest itself when whites are the minority and the country is bastardized to give everyone free healthcare, free cell phone, free housing, free food… in other words COMMUNISM.
Problem with everyone getting free stuff WHERE DO YOU AND YOUR LIBERAL BUDDIES SEE FREE STUFF COMING FROM? Does a magician pull it out of his ass? It comes from somewhere, but YOU tell us where you think the FREE stuff and EQUALITY will come from.
It is what you describe…a classless, moneyless, and stateless social order. The problem is no sane respectable human being would agree that it has ever worked. COMMUNISM has FAILED everywhere it has been implemented.
This is what you mean isn’t it? COMMUNISM. Only you aren’t man enough to ADMIT that’s what you are advocating.

I avoided this forum for a long time because of nonsense like this. Some of you argue against ghosts you make up or argue about why a certain person is posting…while completely missing the actual point by miles.
I am not a “liberal”. I am not a “conservative”. You don’t have a clue how I think and don’t understand what link you are making between Black History Month and people getting free stuff.
I have worked three jobs at one time before, have a college degree and a DDS and served in the US military. How does this equal “give everyone free stuff cuz I iz a Commie” to you?
Look, I know it is tough for guys like you to actually discuss a topic on an intellectual level by actually listening to and responding to exactly what someone writes, but this is just ridiculous.

DIdn’t you know that Black History Month is a secret plot to bring back the Politburo and gulag?
This argument is probably not worth getting rolled up in. It’s like boxing a trashcan fire.
I’m glad to have engaged you even though you are unwilling to discus my points.
In my past I have had some unpleasant workplace experience with some people who were wrapped tightly into the far left ideology. They did what I see many doing today; attempting to destroy someone they disagree with by attacking the ability to financially provide for their family .
I doubt seriously you have experienced that, but perhaps your grandfather or someone in your family has. All I want to get across is that it’s unacceptable. Many TODAY feel a need for revenge for what they PERCEIVE as racism, when perhaps it’s the same thing some of us go through on a weekly basis, but understand it to be “life just ain’t fair” or S.O.L.
My family has never owned slaves and I’m so tired of the hurtful accusations that we live in a racist country. Are there whites that hate blacks? Yes, what can you do about it? Nothing that’s life. Protect your family, you never know who wants to harm you. But don’t tell me we live in a racist country because every black isn’t prosperous. Even the ones that are F it up more than half the time.
Why many of this generation who never suffered under slavery feel they need to broad brush people that aren’t their skin color as needing Black History month… to remind them of something this present generation had nothing to do with - slavery.
What is Black History month if not about that some blacks endured slavery.
Not all blacks and some blacks owned slaves. And ask your history teacher father if he ever heard of the term “Indentured Servant?”
Wikipedia…“In the 17th century, nearly two-thirds of British settlers came as indentured servants. Given the high death rate, many servants did not live to the end of their terms.”
Let’s all watch movies and read about March Indentured Servant History month.
My children say more than half the black kids at school can’t even tell you who Rosa Parks is. So if the black kids don’t care WTF should my children be wasting their time being tested on same subject?
We get it. No need to show movies of Jews being lined up into boxcars on the way to their end. We get it. We don’t need a month every winter to watch movies for 30 days about the holocaust. But you feel special so Black History Month is required. Ironic the one group that has that history month feels so special about their color, that color enters into practically every day of their life. How miserable that must be.
Tuskegee Airmen? Lewis and Clark and Clark’s manservant York? Hiram Revels? Thomas Jennings?
Sigma Pi Phi? None of this makes me any more of a servant to my fellow man than reading about Harry Houdini or Buster Keaton.
You certainly aren’t any better served in you relationships, otherwise you would have made a few more friends out of this thread. But hang in there tomorrow is another day and please let me buy you flowers and some chocolate.
Forget indentured servants. The majority of “slaves” brought to the New World at the beginning of the slave trade were Irish. They cost one tenth the price of an African slave.

Your point about Black history month is valid in that there is other minority groups who go unacknowledged without a month of remembrance concerning their past victimization in regards to heinous acts. No one in this thread has brought up the cultural and ethnic genocide done due the Native Americans since the colonization of America or their lack of month of remembrance of their history.
But I disagree with your point in the utility of not educating our youth about past atrocities committed to Jews or Blacks or any group for that matter because I do believe we are doomed to repeat our history if we are not aware of it. Most people assumed society was past concentration camps but under Milosevic in the early 90’s concentration camps re-emerged.
I do see the utility in the argument that Black History is American History and should be interwoven into the greater American historical narrative because there is only one American history. But it is important to note that throughout history though the dominant group or the victors have tended to dictate what history is and has excluded groups such as Irish slaves from discussion. Most American texts never even mention the historic relations between Native Americans and African Americans (inter-racial relationships, communal acceptance and fighting the slave owners together). So we should be weary of who dictates what history is and the acknowledgement of minority groups in history texts to some extent.
This argument regarding blacks being afraid of blacks in Detroit is dribble when one considers the black population is 82.7%. Of course one is going to be afraid of another black in a crime riddled area considering the fact that 82.7% of the population is black odds are it is going to be another black person and not a white person who most likely lives in the suburbs outside of Detroit.
I do not feel Prof X is trying to agitate he is only explain the past Eurocentricity (white focus) of American society during the period that predated the Cosby show. He argued fairly that Blacks were not in prominent roles in American society and all they saw around them was social inequality in their community. It is hard to argue that even if your own ethnic group is unable to achieve any social mobility in American society if you just focus on the successful white, asian or jewish person you can be successful to because we all live in America. Until blacks were able to achieve prominent roles in society and were recognized for their contribution did it become possible for more blacks to see opportunity in America. So there is merit for Black History month in the past. Prof X was also arguing what issue does Black History cause for people and there is merit that it has a purpose to better inform but it also runs the risk of being divisive because it focuses a lot on the conflict and division in American society during those periods and not on social cohesion.
*** I agree with the poster who said family is the most important and always will be in terms of success rate in life, morals and values.

I recall reading that the there was a mass exodus of caucasians from Detroit as a result of the diminishing economic success of the area after the emergence of Toyota, Volkswagon and Honda. The Big 3 dealers gambled on large vehicles and during the height of the oil crisis in the 70’s they lost that gambled to small vehicle makers such as Honda. Caucasians had economic means took their skilled labour elsewhere while the auto industry slowly began its long march to its current state. Whites have continually left because they know their is little economic opportunity in a city built around one industry. One market economies offer little hope when that industry collapses. People have to provide for their families so they leave. The blacks did not leave and they had less resources to make the transition to a new state and thus stayed.
The blacks did not chase the whites out when the auto industry began its decline but if your saying African American violence is has been causing whites to leave for a while now well violence and social degradation is a fair point to cause anyone to leave.
What is Black History month if not about that some blacks endured slavery.

?
Really? Black History Month is usually the focus of the accomplishments of Black Americans that were often overlooked or downplayed in American History. It is not just about slavery. Is this really the best you have to offer as far as a discussion on this topic?

Good post. It seems some use social or economic circumstances to label as “race actions”. Detroit didn’t fall apart “because” black people were black and lived there.
