Yeah you’re right. I was probably stressing because there are things you can do about this like Finasteride, Minoxidil etc and it works but it has a cost, and potential side effects. After all it suppresses 70% of your DHT which could have neurological consequences, or erecition dysfunction (not like I was using it anyway lol)
But whatever, I’ll think about this later when I’ll have my degree. I’m still sexy af even with my grey, slightly receding hairline (as some 18 YOs feel ahahah)
Today we are going to try some strongman stuff! I’m so excited!!! Also made me some nice red berries, maize bread, nuts and ham french toast
To add my touch to all of this, don’t forget that we are all currently in a very special period (lockdown, curfew, masks, …) without necessarily thinking about it, we are in an anxiety-provoking environment.
Now you have to think about what is good for you, you have a job, you can still train in a gym with school, you can see your classmates, you learn a lot of things that will be useful to you in the future, you are in better shape than 99% of people, and many other things that I don’t know.
And most importantly you are healthy (I think) !
My little life experience has shown me last year that everything can change very quickly, and that it is better to worry about the really important things.
My hair, I started “cheerleading” myself yesterday’s evening ahah. I guess it was a “oh shit, life ends sometimes” moment and not much else to have to it. Just got out of the hairdresser and I look great, so it just make sense that I have been putting zero effort in my hair and I wasn’t liking my head if I don’t work with what I have
Yes you are right about this. No matter how much we shrug it off, this whole thing affects us.
Indeed I have many good things I have to be grateful for and enjoy.
Like today ahahah
27/01 - STRONGMAN
Walks with 20 kgs plates in each hand using pinch grip (5 burpees when a plate falls)
Plate pinch tosses
One hand hold max time
Farmer’s walk up to 210 kgs
60 kgs ball and 50 kgs sandbag cleans and over the shoulder
Ball medley (5 squats + 15m carry x 10 rounds!!!)
Yeah so this was a lot of fun. First time with real farmer’s handle and they just feel better than the trap-bar. The deadlift though was awfully hard and it caught me by surprise! Head was spinning afterwards.
I hung for about 45 secs with one hand, which is more than I thought. But I would have sucked terribly with my left hand. I shall introduce some work for it, as I already knew it was weaker (for quite some time). Probably the cause of my shoulder/elbow issues. Read something by John Rusin about this. It would make sense for almost every lift passes through the hands, so if you’re weak there…
Then some 60 kgs ball cleans and over the shoulder. We had a “WOD” max reps in 90 secs, got the best performance with 17 reps and my throat and lungs were on fire for at least 10 minutes afterwards. Sooooo hard cardio-wise, it was just horrible.
Even worse afterwards, the ball medley. Walking with this huge ball pushing on your abs, you just can’t breathe! Hypoxia level 9000 my head was spinning.
But honestly I’m just hungry for farmer’s handles, balls and sandbag for my conditioning/core work now (maybe some lighter stuff at first though ahahah)
Next time, if there is one, we’ll try some yoke, axle and log stuff!!!
Energy-wise I’m still dead, eyes sore and all, so it’s 8 PM and I’m going to bed
This is one of those things that people will never “get” until they actually get hands on the gear. To say nothing of the folks that try to use dumbbells for farmer’s walks. You need the right tools for this exercise. Glad you enjoyed your exposure to strongman. It’s pretty awesome.
Yeah but if you don’t have them… indeed with DBs it’s horrible, with the 50 kgs already it become an impossible grip task. Trap-bar is decent enough I guess to reap some benefits of the carries (core, grip, traps) if you’re not a strongman…
Yeah I remember very well what you put out not long ago. This and also one arm holds à la Martin Licis
Isn’t strongman random ahahah? It was a discovery day. Strongman is pretty much unknown in my country. Pretty sure I was the only one that knew some events. Last year, in a Covid-free world, the students were able to go to a top gym with multiple yokes, tires etc and do a full day of strongman…
A. Chest-supported row 3 x 6 + 30 with 70 and 40 kgs
B. Lats pull-down 3 x 6 + 30 with 65 and 40 kgs
C. Straight-arms pull-down 2 x 8 + 20 with 60 and 40 kgs
D. Bicep work at random
Little session today, pretty tired, and this stupid stuff was fatiguing the muscle enough (also did some back monday, and strongman yesterday…)
Hit my face on the bench doing chest-supported rows and cut open my face… No pain no gain I think?
A classmate used this protocol with squats then front squats… He didn’t had the best back from a hernia and it snapped during front squats… Now in bed, cannot move, and irradiating pain in his left leg…
I think this day has proved that we should back off and rest more. I grow more and more tired every day. Woke up with bags under the eyes, right eye sore AF. One classmate literally fell asleep in class, looking like a broken dead man, with his head on his shoulder and at an impossible angle
But I have exams next week because of the 'rona so… more stress and more work.
I find it prohibits quick feet, which is a key element to the movement. Having the weight centered, vs front and back, prevents you from letting the weight lead you.
What’s next? Binging on seasons of Orange Is The New Black while chugging back Rose wine and reading Cosmo?
Look man, just shave it off. It’s one less thing to stress about. Plus you’ve got that chiselled jawline which complements a bald head. You’ll probably pick up more chicks
Yes it’s super random and has always been. We try techniques, methods and such, just to experience and learn them. No progression or such. And we try to do what’s possible because sometimes we have to use the little gym with very little equipment so we have to do stuff that wasn’t on the menu
This one I understand! Never got the “snatch” one though
29/01
A. Squat 2 x 2 with 130 kgs, 3 x 2 with 120 kgs
B. Seated leg curls 4 x 15 with 36?
Honestly not energy left that day, also we had worked extensively our whole body. We also were rehearsing the exam in the gym. So just some technique work, tryting to do as clean as reps as I could, slow and nice. Some leg curls for my little hammies, they were burning already from this easy work ahah
Feeling much better today after a lloooong night of sleep. Wasn’t the best sleep but hey, this is great! My right knee cracked super hard during the night at some point, now, no cracking anymore and it feels good, so maybe it put whatever back in it place ahahah
Boss warned me 2 days ago that she actually makes me work on sunday, when I had made my demand by paper 3 weeks ago for an off day and she had accepted. And I had to discover it myself by looking at the planing. No message, no warning, just no respect. I asked her why and she said “but Emma is on holiday so it’s complicated”. Yeah right, she is just mad because she wanted to put me on holidays on february and I said no because we’re going to be in lockdown (that way the company wouldn’t have to pay). I’m just so tired of her BS management. Tired of her sexual harassment on me, and treating the others like human garbage. No wonder she spent Christmas alone. If she confronts me today I’m going to drive through her. I won’t go tomorrow. She’s always doing borderline or flat out illegal stuff. Whatever if she fires me, I’ll earn my unemployment benefit and will have more time to study.
Anyway, that was my rant! This hit me a bit yesterday because I was so tired, but after a good night of sleep I feel good and ready to tackle obstacles! Today will be a good day, that already started good!
12 deadlifts (70kgs)
9 hang power cleans
6 push jerks
Time: 18 something
Oh God this was way worse than we anticipated. With the classmates we did a really big aprty at my house on saturday. It was a greta time, and really lifted our spirits, especially for those away from their families, and suffering from loneliness with this COVID shit. But we drank like sinkholes (around a bottle and a half per person) and barely slept. One mate even did it again the day after.
So we had only 40 mins to train, I proposed a WOD and we were 3 doing it. One friend was too tired and did it with 50 kgs, finished way sooner. The other with 60. It was soooo hard! The weight felt unmoveable lol, the cleans were consuming my sould, and my 60 kg friend was out of breath as well despite his crazy good cardio (did a 20 km in 1h14 a few weeks ago). Really, really one of the toughest shits I done lol
Lower back, traps, forearms, and glutes/hams sore af ahah
A mate and I did some wod during lunchbreak. I asked him what movement he wanted to do, he said “renegade rows” despite having never done them lol. So I created trhis WOD. Took around 25 mins to complete. Oh boy it was horrible loooool! The thing is the movements all have an irregular breathing pattern (you have to hold your breath during heavy bench, renegade rows, burpees) as well as being a true core blaster of a workout!
Renegade rows needed some time to adapt, and it was probably too heavy but the choice of dumbbell was really limited in the little gym (tbh I don’t even know which weight I used) and they really felt amazing in my obliques! Gonna do them again, with higher reps, for some core workout
One of us was doing non-stop batlle ropes while the other was doing the rower because there was only one. I’m gonna sleep well tonight…
Still haven’t started the diet (having the biggest written exam tomorrow, as well as the last one next wednesday) but reducing calories, feeling good right now
