Demigod before 35 (Aldebaran)

Alright, young man, brace yourself.

In high school, I thought I was dating my wife. That bitch cheated on me and then some. We broke up for a bit and she started talking to my friend. I introduced them at church camp!!!

She invited him to a high school dance and I was like “Sweet, I haven’t seen him in awhile.” I got drunk and wanted to pick a fight. Friends and fear of school consequences talked me out of it.

We eventually got back together…right before she went off to college. She started dating a college guy and told him I was the crazy ex. She even brought him to one of my football games which is how I heard about it. She got knocked up by him and had an abortion, but she told me it was mine and she had a miscarriage. I felt like shit.

Fast forward a couple months and the “other guy” and I talked and pieced it together. I didn’t care anymore.

For the next year I didn’t want a girlfriend, but if a girl didn’t respect herself then I didn’t respect her. I hooked up with a few of them and that makes me a shitty person.

The reason I tell you this is so you don’t do what I did. I was an asshole to women because I didn’t care about myself anymore. I wasn’t horrible by most standards but I was horrible by mine. Don’t make the same mistakes I did.

There’s no reason to be set up with hot friends because you’re not ready. You don’t have to seek women. Take care of yourself and do your thing. If someone catches your eye and you’re ready then show your interest. You can’t force this stuff, though.

Personally, I think you need to get over this chick and heal before you start looking for another girl.

Thank you for the story. That was fucked up.

Yeah I think you’re right. I had made my peace, and was starting to feel better. Honestly she did me some service here by acting so low, I won’t be putting her on a pedestal anymore. The brother thing is a different story.

I don’t think I could ever be bad to women for no reason though. I might b e a youth but I never hooked up, no one night stands. If I go on a date and the girl is not girlfriend material to me, well that’s it.

I’ll try to focus on myself as much as I can. And hopefully soon I’ll be too busy to care for girls anyway

Don’t put people on pedestals. Search for mutual respect, and symbiotic relationships. This goes for friends and partners alike.

In my experience, if there is an asymmetry in the regard two people have for one another or an asymmetry in how much one contributes to the relationship then it won’t end well.

And treat yourself with respect too.

Yeah, I’ll have learned my lesson hopefully
I’ve been meaning to ask you, who are wise and bookmar useful stuff: do you have the CT post about exercises to correct imbalances for each bodypart?

@robstein I have a question for you, and perhaps you have some answer. I have some photoshoot scheduled, and was thinking about how to proceed to look “good”. i have read your log, and saw that your peak week was 4 days of keto with lots of water, then one day of high carbs and very little water.
But I’ll certainly won’t be 5-6% like you, but I aim for a true 10%, and I’m not sure water manipulation techniques are useful for a natural, like Stu and Brickhead said. Actually I tried this once: Shredded in 6 Days
And arguably I looked worse the day of the shoot compared to the previous and following day, and that week, my performance in the gym was horrible. Granted, this year, I’m actually leaner despite all these events.

So what do you think? Try a technique or not? Otherwise I was just thinking, eat easily digestible food like the vertical diet for 2 days so to keep a flat stomach, and that’s it. Perhaps a shot of vodka before the shoot lol

Might be worth also asking @jackolee that’s if he isn’t still at the beach.

Nice call! In his honor I’m gonna tan near the pool then

This doesn’t ring a bell at all. I do have some stuff about what exercises you should do depending on your weakness in a main lift. Is that what you mean? CT tends to be more performance oriented, less* focus on aesthetics.

*Less doesn’t mean “no focus”

Yeah sorry that’s what I meant, weaknesses in lifts

Which lift are you trying to fix?

Thank you, this is great. Mostly OHP. I think I should reinforce my rotators. Like last week I had some pain there when taking off my shirt. It went away. I think this particular pain is from US football, I had some pretty rough tackles, and it had come and go over the years. Especially when I was doing CrossFit I had some shoulder stability problems.

I think @Frank_C knows a lot about shoulders. For me, it’s about ensuring that my shoulder girdle is nice and activated before horizontal/vertical pressing.

I like warming up with some sets on the rear delt machine, some handstand, handstand walks, cart wheels, band no money, and band pull-aparts. The later two I do a lot between sets. @j4gga2 posted a clip from instagram with a band movement I also do where you bring the band from overhead to parallell to the floor while maintaining some tension on the band that’s also makes my shoulders feel quite good. Spider walks too.

And doing incline bench presses with an easy weight, 12+ reps, with a deep stretch has helped remove pain during benching (probably because I can’t go as heavy ^^)

I’ve done a hundred pull-aparts, and shoudler dislocate at every workout warmup for years, but it didn’t change much. Spider crawls I gotta try!
You do handstand walks as a warm-up? You’re a beast!

Honestly I feel like every time I did some stretching exercises it din’t help. What helped was focusing on OHP strength and no stretching. Maybe I’m too mobile there?

Incline used to cause me some pain, and was all shoulders (45°) but regular bench never hurt my shoulders…

I like them a lot. Meadows has a good video on them!

It’s actually quite “chill”, the arm doesn’t move through a huge ROM so it’s mostly like an isometric hold I’d say.

Don’t know man, the shoulder joint is far too complex for me to fully treat my own right much less someone elses over the internet. Hope you find something that works for you.

I meant incline bench with dumbbells for what it’s worth. Also like single arm KB press.

Check out pain-free-high-performance-pressing-10-minutes on thibarmy!

This sounds like impingement. The aspect of my shoulder that received the most attention after surgery was my external rotators and serratus anterior. I worked up to doing those spider walks on the floor.

@mattjp, here’s a good external rotator test. My PT called them robots. Put a small band around your wrists. Hold your upper arm at your sides while leaning back against a wall. Bend your arms to 90 deg at the elbow and pull out on the band so that your wrists, elbows, and shoulders are lined up. Hold this position and raise your arms up only moving at the shoulder. Go slow. Go as high as you can and hold for a count and then go back down. The weaker arm will show itself quickly.

I tried to find a video but no luck. I’m sure someone out there calls it something different.

Whomever found that photo detailing weak points in the classical lifts, THANK YOU. I sent a picture of it to my gmail so I can reference it later. In particular, I need to address my OHP and I think this will help. Hopefully, in time, it will carry over to my bench, which sadly, is also poverty.

Ever tried bottom’s up KB presses and/or waiter’s carries?

I like weighted dislocates or banded dislocates. Using a broomstick never did much for me. Skin the cats are dope too, at least for me.

BTW, handstands I find help my shoulder feel more stable which is why I do them. Adjusting the scapula under load seems to do the trick.

@Voxel @j4gga2 indeed I read CT’s post about this. When I was focusing on my shoulder stability I was doing KB bottoms-up press as activation, HBT OHP, lots of vertical pushing, and overhead carries at least once a week. I really have to buy bands, and here the KBs are grossly oversized so I was afraid to try these. Maybe it’s just the lack of these exercises that is in fault.

Probably yeah. I’ll try these!

I did some strict handstands during quarantine and boy they are so hard. Never managed to walk though

Colossus - Pull heavy

So, not bad considering I barely ate yesterday, + getting horribly drunk sunday + the shock and sadness/anger.

Didn’t really like much the dual handle rows, I felt it more in my arms than usual.

I did the rack pulls by pulling from bumpers this time, so the ROm was even greater. I think it’s the good ROM. Back and the lift, felt really tight and solid. But I think I just too hard at it, and I shouldn’t go to true failure like that on this exercise. I’ll keep that in mind.

Same for Meadows rows, I went too hard at it and there was a little bit of lower back strain as well.

The curls were so haaaard… I should have waited more between sets. But God damn my arms looked huge. Could have used slightly heavier weights on the hammer curls.

Not a bad session again. The straight-arms pulldowns were a nice change from the pullups. I have good sensations with that one. Excited for next week’s session

I started using a bench to support myself on meadows rows and it helped a ton. I also used DBs since I didn’t have a landmine.
