I’m still a little old school on the tattoo front. For me, you need to either have the right rockstar style or be in pretty good shape to pull them off. I have neither, so I would just look like a dude having a midlife crisis.
Sometimes you paint yourself so negatively I imagine you as a 40 something, with a belly protruding, bald on top, little glasses running down the nose, going to fetch his paper while grumbling
I can be hard on myself, and there’s two sides to that both positive and negative. The negative side is that I am genuinely fairly unimpressed with my current achievements lifting wise. Given the amount of time I’ve been lifting, it irritates me that most people wouldn’t guess that I lift. While I’m aware there’s many factors at play there from insane expectations from the general public, to a total lack of focus on lifting for aesthetics to having to work off a pretty big “training debt”, it’s something that bugs me a bit because there are some things there that can be changed.
It’s also a conscious effort on my part to remind myself that I’m not a teenager anymore and that I shouldn’t be setting teenager goals. I’ll be 35 later this year, I’ve got 2 kids and a partner I’ve been with a decade, near as damnit. There are more important things to 35 year old me than looking good nekkid or tricks to add a few kg to my squat 1RM and I need to be reminded of that as regularly as possible because I haven’t grown up yet.
That’s it, I’ve officially done the hardest set of my life (so far)
Leg press 10 reps + 3 drops of 10 reps. Or it was supposed to be. I went at it too hard, gave too much. i should have used less weight or something. I did 20 then I was dead, and tried to do as many reps as I could
After the vid ends I did 12 reps with only 1 plate per side (yeah pitiful) and my legs were just dying. My quads were burning for many minutes and I could not even stand, stayed on the floor for a while.
Then straight into leg extensions: 10 reps + two drops + 10 partials + 10 secs iso.
Yeah…
Then one set of walking lunges to failure lol
Then straight leg deadlift with bands…
I have many pics from today of my mates lying on the floor. This was probably the hardest session of my life ahah, to be fair I didn’t go to complete failure on the lunges, I didn’t have the mental fortitude anymore to do so a fourth time (yeah because the first exercise was leg curl: 8 reps with 3 secs eccentric + 2 drops + 10 partials + 30 secs iso hold…)
A. Seated leg curl 1 set of 8 with 3 second eccentric 1 set of 8 with 3 second eccentric, then drop the weight and do 6-8 reps, then drop the weight again and do 6-8 reps, then with the same weight do 10 partials from the stretch position, then 30 second iso-hold at mid-range
RPE 10 and 12
B. Leg Press 1 set of 10
1 set of 10, then drop the weight and do 10 reps, then do it again twice. the first drop is bigger
RPE 10 and 12
C. Leg Extension drop set of DEATH 1 set of 10
1 set of 10, then drop the weight and do 6-8 reps, then drop the weight again and do 6-8 reps, then with the same weight do 10 little partials from the bottom, then 10 second iso-hold at mid-range
RPE 10 and 12
D. Lunges Hold small to medium dumbbells in your hand and do walking lunges until you drop
RPE 10
E. Banded Stiff-Leg Deadlift 1 set of 10-12
1 set of 10-12, then let go of the bands and do 8-10 more reps
RPE 10 and 11
F. Calves Toe Press on Leg Press 3 sets of 10, followed on each sets by 8 partial reps from the stretch position
RPE 11
There you go, enjoy. Guaranteed mass increase, as these last 6 weeks have proven. I’m happy to deload next week.
I’m gonna walk to digest but honestly I just want to stuff my face right now
