Demigod before 35 (Aldebaran)

I mean my piece isn’t big but with my super sensitive skin she had to take a brake because my skin was so red she had trouble seeing what she was doing. At the end it was really painful.

A death leg day… Longest gruesome leg set I did was almost 4 mins, usually they last 2 mins. You skip the warm-ups, feeder and rest and you have what, 20 mins of cumulative agony? A tattoo takes hours…

I think it’s pretty normal to for artists to take breaks for this reason but also for their own sake.

Not always that long.

I’m not suggesting pain is an entirely mental sensation – not at all. Though I imagine you do painful leg training because you want results. You accept that the process elicits pain. Same could be said for those who have multiple large tattoos. That doesn’t mean you necessarily ignore feeling bad, but that final product is so alluring that considering how painful the process will be is not a priority in making the decision to go for it.

I think there’s something to be said for being used to doing something painful. People who lift seriously know how painful lower body training can be, so they might be desensitized. Maybe have a higher pain threshold. At least they expect it. People who have never been tattooed, or maybe have only a tiny one, are the ones most concerned about the pain because it’s still a foreign experience.

They’re both very different kinds of pain, too. Then there are other variables, like the ink’s location… a decently sized, detailed tattoo on one’s quad probably won’t hurt as much as the same one on the ribcage.

Brutal lower body lifting often causes awful DOMS. Healing a tattoo, however, is not so much additionally painful but instead more of an annoyance.

I believe in regards to tattoo pain, location on the body matters a fair amount. The one I got on my inner arm for example, had the tattoo gun been silent I probably would’ve fallen asleep while I got it. The one on my tricep, that was not going to happen but only parts of it sucked. The one on my chest, mostly fine but when it was near my collar bone I thought my nipple was going to spontaneously combust.

Yeah exactly, enar the collar bone and the middle, the sternum was the most painful!

But that won’t prevent me from getting more! All that talk has getting me pretty excited but I’ll have to be patient

A friend of mine put it best. During his PhD program he was teaching a freshman math class and the students asked him about his tattoos. He told them “get all the tattoos you want now. They’re expensive but money comes and goes. When you can afford them you want have the time to go get them”.

Money doesn’t come for me yet mate I’m a student and I earn 2/3 of minimum wage and 3/4 of it goes into bill and gas and food :joy:

I had to spend literally nothing for 2 months so that now I can change my tires and pass the mandatory “technical car control”

Also, tattoo shops have been closed for like 7 months now? The artists will be swarmed by requests and minde was already highly sought after

I have to get my financial independance first. Actually my grandma just paid for the car, I’m so grateful… I’m putting everything I can aside because I want to leave Mcdonald’s and I’d rather have something in case things does South (who knows with this virus)

I feel ya man, I’ve been there. Tattoos are certainly down the list when it comes to priorities in life haha.

It doesn’t matter after a while! It hurts all over. Going across the rib cage was extreme and just the thought of it gives me shivers.

People can handle a 2 hour session. After that you become sensitive to everything. Unless you have a history of abusing drugs. Those people can handle the pain better. I spent 20+ hours with my tattoo guy and we discussed lots of topics. I had one 4 hour session, after that I cut them off at 3, but sometimes he kept going for free.

The longest I ever spent in the chair was like 3 hours and the biggest reason I wanted out was because the artist was an insufferable person to be around haha. My other two only took like an hour a piece so I don’t have much of a frame of reference for long durations in the chair.

This is far from uncommon. I used to run a shop next to a tattoo parlour and it was a regular occurance to have fainters in. They’d come in to have a break from the tattoo, the adrenaline would wear off and down they go.

For my part, I don’t have a tattoo for the same reason I don’t have a fade, because I’m a chunky middle aged dude and it would look silly.

Forgot to log yesterday

10/05 - Colossus - Final week pull 1

It felt like my arms wanted to fall off my shoulder girdle after this

Final week so we finish strong. I decided to go really heavy, even if I have to be less stellar ont he form, but I think it’s alright. This is going to a be a tough week, we had 3 biceps exercises today lol

Still think that after that I’m gonna use lighter weights on squats and focus on form, my left knee being a bit painful for a couple days was a good reminder of that.

I was doing sets of 9 with 120 kgs, but compared to my recent max, 154 (I think I could have done more on a good day, but at the same time, I’ve lost some weight so strength) is 78 or 80 if I pick 150 as a conservative max. Considering that at 154 there was a little knee cave.

Still, sets of 9 with 80% are too high, no wonder the first reps are good, but then technique suffers. It’s always the same anyway with this lift, later reps get looser.

Hence why I think the next block, using lots of skill and speed work will do me good.

In the words of Dave Tate, if you do 4 sets of 8 you have like 8-12 good reps, if you do 15 sets of 2 you have 30 good reps

I’m much more confortable destroying my quads with other exercises anyway

I got the Unity @TrainForPain but I think that the next 8 weeks I’ll still do my own program. I’ll keep the Unity for this autumn/winter when I’ll eat to support my training. Aiming to try a modest surplus one final time and see how strong I get.

Yay!

Awww.

Tag me when you do! I’ll definitely be doing this one again. I’m enjoying it.

I’m with you, though - I’m definitely eating right now. My lifts are happy; my cardiologist, potentially, will not be.

I’m really excited by this program but it’s the more sensible choice. It was made with the purpose of doing it in a surplus.

Don’t worry my program also use mountaindoggy hypertrophy, coupled with strength-skill work or speed work, and the progression isn’t as hard or fixed, so it will be more doable with less calories.

I’m sure you listened to their video yesterday, but they said it’s the kind of program which benefits from being run a second time. If you’re feeling runned down after doing it, start back at phase 1, if you feel great, phase 2

Today the push day. It was a really good day.

First I destroyed myself ont he incline DB bench with 12 x 36 kgs (PR!)

Then 100kgs x 8 on the bench! (lifetime PR!)

Jesus! I think I’m doing something right lol! I think The best I ever did before was 100 x 5

No vanity pics today, but starting to have some real nice striations on chest and shoulders, and my shoulders and arms just looked HUGE today! I used to have meh triceps pumps but goddamn. Just really big looking. Also “love handles” are like empty

I can say today that I’ve reached my goals lol. I feel very good in my skin and truly satisfied with my physique. Everything from now on is bonus.

Not going to change anything to what I’m doing (appart from the deload next week). Because it’s working for me.

Doing the best with what I can. Things could be better but I’m feeling quite happy.

What I think I’ve learned from these 6 weeks:

  1. When there’s a will there’s a way

  2. Food quality really matters

  3. Moving more really matters

  4. Having a training partner is really beneficial

Loved this picture from today

Thanks for the compliment ahahah!

That’s okay, I’ve made my peace with it, I have more important things on which to focus right now

Also, spring and summer being here, and lockdown being lifted soon, I have a feeling things will move :man_shrugging:

But honestly just happy from being able to enjoy a bit more life

He’s PICKY!!!

Yes I am

I’m almost 31, I’ve past the age of succumbing to pulsions and I look for more in someone. My own and friend’s personal experiences have taught me it’s probably better to be picky anyway lol

Thank you, honestly I didn’t expect that at ALL! Considering I’m cutting a bit. So I treated myself with a nice big chocolate bar, which doubles down as fuel for the grueling leg workout of tomorrow hehe
