Not from incarceration, as I explained. I can pose alternative theories if you’d like though. Welfare, paying women to not get married is probably part of the reason.
You probably need to define what you mean by those terms, but I’d say white people are far less racist today. The nation as an institution also did.
Thank you, and yes I understand what you’re saying. I simply wanted to illustrate that it is about mindset and not having a victim mentality. Yes, too many people’s situations suck, but that won’t change if they don’t allow themselves to change.
Do you get welfare because you are already poor or because you plan on being poor? Single motherhood might be the biggest cause of the current conditions. People look at the parent who isn’t there, the father, when they should look at who is there, the mother.
There are fewer racists today and the racism that exists is generally not as intense as in the past. The problem is that there could be no racists at all today and the inner cities would still be a dump.
I’m a bit of cliche here, but the book “Hillbilly Elegy” really helped me understand the cycle of poverty and why the “pull yourself up by your bootstraps” ideology simply will not work for folks stuck in the cycle of poverty.
I don’t know if that article quotes the study that was done in the 60s that already foresaw the issues in the inner cities that are fueled by single motherhood. People, including Lyndon Johnson, saw all of this coming. BLM’s extreme feminist beliefs are contradicted by the reality of fatherless homes so they want to change the expectations for black children to match the outcomes they are getting.
One helluva lot of people would starve before catching their first fish… which is why we have foodstamps. Youre not wrong. Its just a cruel (like nature) way of thinking that we decided against back in the 1930s.
I read a quote, maybe sourced off of TN - govt intervention succeeded in destroying American Blacks in a way that slavery, inhumanity, Jim Crow was never able to.
Anecdote - Went to Hawaii 25+ years ago, commented to wife back then that Hawaiians lived off of the land and sea for 1000 years. But now they were drug ridden and kept by the government dole.
Helping a man do for himself vs keeping him, is as noble is to evil.
Starvation has never been a significant cause of death in the USA. I’m sure the woke activists could change that via policy, like they did in China with man-made famines that killed millions.
Did you think Zecarlo was literally talking about teaching people to fish? Doubt it. Why would you then assume that i was literally talking about people starving from not catching fish?
These same woke activists in 2020 created policy in 1950s China? well shoot, i had no idea. (this is called disingenuously taking a metaphor literally).
I think there’s more to it than that. Abolishing the family is one of the goals stated in the Communist Manifesto, and one of the BLM founders is on record saying they are “trained Marxists”. Just look at the direction the Democrats have gone in the last while, this looks like the beginning of a communist revolution in the US.
People have no idea how racist public education is. The policies and expectations are based on a belief that black kids can not achieve as well as white kids. It used to be that poverty and social ills explained the achievement gap, and it made sense. As a teacher you had that in mind when teaching and setting goals. The hope being that you could eventually close that gap but you had to temper expectations to the reality you were faced. Now, the expectations are lower because the gap is explained by black students being unable to achieve like white students because the expectations are racist by virtue of an inherent inability of blacks to achieve them.
There was a time if you said black students couldn’t do as well white students because they were black, you were considered a racist. Now you’re a racist if you believe black students can achieve similar results as white students.
I teach foreign languages so woke culture isn’t really relevant. I won’t be surprised if at some point they will somehow want us to incorporate social justice or whatever in the instruction but when I teach anything historical I don’t include an opinion on it one way or another. I just give the facts and the historical context. It’s amazing how kids are not quick to judge when they are given the whole story. I think that’s why some don’t want to tell them the whole story. In short, I won’t teach that Columbus was a murderer and was responsible for all the evil in America. I’ll probably be moving on from teaching anyway because I can see the writing on the wall. Even if my class is not that infected by sjw propaganda, I don’t want to be surrounded by virtue signaling co-workers.
