Definitely a Beginner

Ok…I feel like I have to swallow my pride to post something like this where everyone around me seems to have a much better physique than I do. Anyway here goes…

I’m 17 years old and I’m a senior in high school. I would like to get in better shape than I am now before I go to college. I would have gotten into working out earlier in my life, however I have just not had any motivation. My new years resolution is to cut some weight, build muscle and definition.

I’ve had to put it off due to the hockey season being in full swing, but our championship is on Friday, so I will have time to work out now. Currently I weigh about 165 and I’m 6’0". My legs are in fairly good shape with little fat and have nice definition due to playing hockey and tennis for the past four years.

I have a decent amount of fat on my stomach. There is also a little on my chest and arms.

My ultimate goal is to be in the weight range of 165-175, however I want to look good without a shirt on and have strength as well. I need a diet where I can lost weight as fast as I can without endangering my health, so that I have more time to add muscle and mass.

After I drop down to my base weight, I want to just slap on the muscle, however I would value definition over absolute mass.

Another thing that I need help on is workouts to lose weight, and then build muscle. I want to focus on upper body and core strength since my legs are, what I feel, is strong enough for now.

Also, supplements are another thing that I need to worry about. One of my good friends takes Tru-Mass and NO-Xplode, however he is just straight up bulking. I havent really read anything about these things, however I told my parents about using them and they were extremely opposed to it.

They say that they are drugs which could hurt me real bad, but I dont really buy into that bs. I could sneak some supplements behind their back, however I dont want to use things which would have very visible side effects. If there was an all-natural supplement that I could show them that would be sweet.

Any help on any of the above listed topics would be sweet and greatly appreciated. Thanks guys.

First of all, just do any program here on this sight, since you are just starting out you will gain muscle and lose fat at the same time probably. Just pick any one of the workouts in the “are you a beginner” stickie thread at the top of this forum.

Second of all, the general opinion in this forum about products like No-xplode…well. read these

All you really need are protein shakes, a good multivitamin, and a lot of hard f’in work.

Also do some research on plain old “Creatine Monohydrate” if you really feel like taking a different supplement. Do a search of these forums and decide for yourself if you want to go that route. There are a lot of pros to using it, but I will let you make that call.
