I hold my breath for as many reps as possible.
Do you lift with a belt? I lift with one on squats and Deads, but I donāt make it very tight - the way I ātightenā my belt is by getting that brace going, and imagining pushing out in all directions around my midsection - not just the belly.
I unfortunately do not have any resources at all on the subject. It was mostly learned during roofing work growing up⦠I guess I just naturally did it from the start of actual lifting.
I imagine re breathing on front squats is difficult just due to the way itās situated on your collarbone/chest/shoulders. Maybe try very short breaths while keeping upper back/core super tight. I know it was nearly impossible for me to breathe on zerchers, so Iād try to explode up and get a bounce at the top and do a very short breath as the bar lifted slightly off of my chest.
I also try to get as many reps done as possible while on the first breath. If I have to breathe on deadlifts, itās always at the top. Squats are always done at the top, and I do notice some chest heave on them, just because I do not want my lower back/core to loosen up. Iāll breathe into the chest and then force the air down into my belt. OHP depends on whether my front rack is feeling good, and bench is always at the top.
Thanks @T3hPwnisher . Iāll see how many reps I can get on one breath today for front squats. @flappinit a belt is probably in my future for that reason. I donāt have one yet.
@boilerman thanks. I have gotten a lot better at breathing at the top of the press, because breathing in the front rack is miserable, but idk how much bounce Iām going to get on FS! I will experiment with it though.
