My son played GTA when it first came out on the PC, then Xbox etc. When he heard that a couple of kids (13 & 14 yo I believe) wrecked their parents car and the excuse they gave was becasue they wanted to act out the GTA game, my son said “Fucktards!” Of course I don’t condone his choice of words but I did say, “You’re correct and watch your language… retards would be sufficient”

When kids do not know the difference between reality and gaming there is another problem here, not gaming. Put these kids in the harsh reality of true gang life, and I bet they would wet their pants. I’m an adult and I know better than to piss off a “real” gangsta…

Congratulations on raising your son to have some common sense. [/quote]

Thanks for the compliment, my son is smarter than I am at times.

The other day there were colleges represented in the school gym so the kids could see what they offered. His buddies wanted to cut class and go to some show… he flat out told them “No way, I want to see what they have to offer or what I need to get in.” I was impressed. My wife gets the credit for this she is so real man.

video games are an outlet for pent-up murderous rage

For some reason people forget that over the last 15 years, as the popularity of video games has exploded, rates of violent crime have collapsed. I’m not saying that there’s a causal relationship or anything, but it goes to show that the games can’t be THAT bad.

That fear mongering attention whore Jack Thomson should be dropped in a giant vat of untreated porta-potty sludge leftover from a chili cook-off.

I believe the violent crime amongst teenagers has dropped significantly. These being the individuals that are being trained to slaughter people if you listen to Jack Thompson.

Couple years back im in an EBgames, this kid is trying to get his mom to buy him GTA. She’s like no you’re only 10, hes hammering her, “all my friends have it” blah blah. So im standing near by so she asks me, do i know anything about it? I tell her, its violent and mysogynistic, in no way appropriate for a ten yr old. The kid hates me, she doesnt buy.

Do i think that Video games CAUSE kids to shoot up their school? Nope. But i do think that there are things that are for adults and things for kids. Kids shouldnt be exposed to adult material. Who should decide? PARENTS. Many parents are to busy , frazzled or scared of their kids to set proper limits. But i think all kids need them.

To me GTA is too heavy for many adults. I think its super violent and it perpetuates and reinforces negative stereotypes about urban environments and ethnic groups.

However Government should NOT be involved in censoring this type material.

Oh yeah, a judge in Florida ruled that Take-Two’s Bully can go ahead and be sold tomorrow (Jack was trying to get him to halt the sale of the game).
