Death to Video Games!

For the Children!!

I hate them.

Oh, please. Video games aren’t the problem. It’s the lack of parental involvement and guidance. I had LIMITS on how much I could play everyday, and I was also taught right from wrong, and fantasy from reality. Why do people not teach these things, and then wonder why kids are as fucked up as they are? Because it’s a lot easier to throw up scapegoats and strawmen.

That’s retarded. Why would anyone be for that much censorship and control over a form of media? It is a PARENT’S responsibility to monitor what their kids are doing. I don’t want my ability to go buy GTA taken away because of yet another political scapegoat.

“It’s to save the children” shouldn’t even work anymore. Too bad there are enough idiots in this country to still fall for it though.

Introduced by Joe Leiberman and Hillary Clinton - there’s a surprise.

So true.

Yeah… Pac-Man is the downfall of civilization. Fucktards.

Why take responsibility when you can blame someone else?!?

First it was books, then heavy metal, then rap, then TV and movies. Now its videogames turn.

Just a damn shame the majority of gamers are over 18, but nobody ever bothers to look up that stat.

Man, I really hate Jack Thompson.

Next on the Daily Show…

Lazy parents who blame everything but themselves for their dysfunctional children!

Quotes:
“Its not me.”

“I work long hours.”

“I cant watch them every second of the day.”

“When they’re at a friends house I cant watch them.”

“I run a multi-million dollar law firm. Its my wifes job to watch the children. If she wasnt fucking cheating on me! WHORE!”

“Its that Biggie Smalls rapper.” (crying)

“GTA and its hot coffee! I mean c’mon its so obvious.”

“I got 8 kids! I’m 23 years old, how can I keep an eye on all my children when I’m gettin’ my groove on at da club sippin’ my Crystal?”

I heard that Halo 3 will be out soon!!

And you can play live with gamers on the 360 as well as PC, how cool is that?

Seriously, I let my kids play the games and if I see it is affecting them negatively, then I would put a stop to it, it’s simple it’s in my house and at $500 a pop on average for the consoles, I don’t think the 10 year olds are buying them…

Halo 3 will not release until at LEAST a year after Halo 3 drops on the 360. In theory you will be able to play cross platform (360/PC) but it wont be soon. The first games to take advantage of that will be role playing games and much smaller games.

The research will be headed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and, if the study finds that video games do in-fact harm the children, the government will be free to impose its will on the industry.

Yeah, I’m sure the findings of that research won’t be biased at all. Fahrenheit 451 ain’t lookin’ so outrageous these days is it? Bradbury may have had it right all along…

Exactly. Who the hell is buying the 600 dollar systems for the kids that their parents don’t want them playing? If these systems are so expensive that they make people with JOBS have to save up for them, what is the problem? No kid should even have a game their parents don’t want them to have or don’t know about.

Whose kids have master cards nowadays?

No, AMEX…

Stopped playing video games about 5 years ago. Looking back, I think it was when the realization hit that I was investing time into a fictional character that I could have been investing in myself.

To be clear, that is pure speculation on the writer’s part. Many courts have given a two-pronged argument for the unconstitutionality of video game bans: 1) First amendment protections, and 2) Lack of scientific evidence that video games are harmful to children or anyone else.

Even if the government were to find some reasonable scientific evidence to back the claim, it doesn’t erase first amendment concerns. Consider Playboy or Hustler, for example… courts may agree that exposure to sexually explicit materials can have adverse effects on youth, and can therefore access to them may be restricted. They still have a first amendment right to expression, however, and are therefore still available to adults.

It is likely that IF the government substantiates its claims that video games are harmful to youth (trouble with a capital T), we will see SOME courts allowing bans of video games to minors.

You make it sound like a drug. I play on weekends if I play at all. It never caused me to think I was taking so much time away from bettering myself.

Maybe you just need an intervention.

I have to agree here, when you talk to the game and expect a response, then it’s time to move on.

Really. I play mostly on my days off, and workdays I try to get a chore done before I start playing, like take out some trash and sweep, or wash the dishes. It’s just for fun, sheesh.

It seems you never played God of War, Professor. For a time I WAS Kratos. My humble apologies to the poster by said name.

God of War 2 drops on us this winter.

Back to the original intent of this thread. It’s infuriating to me the things that are being pushed for in this country. There’s no holding anyone accountable. Self respect is terribly lacking as is personal responsobility. We have become an instant gratifcation society with no regard for work ethic or sacrifice.

They can be, though, like many things. I barely play now myself, yet there was a period when it took way too much of my time. But I can’t blame anyone for that but myself. As should the parents who spawn and then blame the universe for their kids going postal.
