Week 2 Day 1 complete…I had some strange pain in my right knee on the first set of 9 today. I decided to stick with it, and it went away after the first set. In the past, I probably would have stopped and saved it for another day, but I had to keep with the schedule.
I put up a video in my log. I didn’t want to pollute your thread with my vids.

See, that’s the kind of crap I love to see! Way to drive thru the pain.
I do have to be honest with you Modi, I hate the fact that you are doing Smolov, cause it’s going to make closing the distance between you and I that much tougher ;-D. About 2 years ago, you were about 10lbs above me, then I had a huge layoff and watched in the background as you hit 5plates.

Haha. Gotta give you something to chase.
Honestly, I think 2 years ago I was just getting back into squatting after a long layoff myself, so I was able to get back over 4 plates pretty easily. 5 plates took some serious work. Now onto 6 plates…

Yeah, I can’t look that far ahead yet. I gotta hit the short term goal, first. Will 5 plates goal be a memory in 5 weeks? We will see
Holy Crap!!! Smolov Intense Phase day1 complete. This was the toughest night of Smolov so far. I looked at the numbers and thought “man, this is going to be gravy”. I made a very big mistake. The good thing is that I hit all my numbers and will relax and get ready for Wednesday.
The video is 2 of the 3 sets with 174.6kg for 4 reps and 1 set of 5reps with the same weight. And, yes, it was as painful as it looked AND i did blow chunks afterward.
I got sick, now I have to push my workout to wensday…gonna see if I can do…wensday, friday, sunday, tuesday, thursday, saturday
to get everything straight again.
should not have went drinking with the boys
LMAO. That was the same thing Tstud went through on front squats a while back. Smolov+drinking=BAD. I have to admit, I drank a beer after last nights session. But, that was just one light beer, which is like drinking flavored water.
Man, that is a brutal pace to get back on track, but not impossible. And, if you pull it off, the last few sessions will be a cake-walk.
I see nothing wrong in partaking, as long as it does not interfere with the workout ;-D. I take that back, you need to miss a couple of workouts so that my squat does not look so bad in comparison. LMAO.

Happy St. Paddy’s!
It’s a state holiday, I can’t really avoid it. I’ll just hold off on drinking until after the session today.
Your Squat has come along very nicely. It’s just not my style to wait around and let everyone catch up, that’s all.

I would never expect or accept it, Modi. All things worth having, are worth bleeding for…
Some people might think it’s a mistake, closing my stance as I have. But, I get in a much tighter position and my hips are a lot less vulnerable when I have my feet just outside of shoulder-width. As long as I put my time in “under the bar”, I think I will be able to hit some pretty good numbers in the future.
On a less serious note, the only great St. Paddy’s day party I have ever been to in the south was in Savannah, Georgia. Down here, it’s business as usual.

I have no doubt you will hit your goals.
I was in Savannah in the fall, and they are supposed to have the third best St. Paddy’s day celebration in the country. I can’t remember who is number two. I’ll be partaking in number one shortly…

I had an awesome day of Squatting today. Everything just felt right. I posted another video in my log with some music that’s appropriate for today.
Man, you just breezed thru that. Great squatting. It’s good to see your knee wasn’t nagging you.
Second day of the intense phase complete! Overall, it was a pretty good session, but I need to get tighter. I blame the switching weeks for my slow start and I think the squats will only get better (to a certain extent).

When you say you blame the switching weeks for the slow start, do you mean that just being away from the Squats in general is to blame, or do you think you should have done different exercises during the switching phase?
Week 2 of the Base Meso is done for me, and it kicked my ass today. I’m not a fan of the two heavy days in a row. Then again, I’m sure no one really is.

Are you doing M/W/Sa for the intense?
I think that being away from back squats for 2 weeks effected me. The first day of the intense, I was not mentally prepared for the day. The second session went much better, but I think next week will see me much more focused. But, I when you look at the layout of the Intense Phase, it seems like that is the plan. Week 1 is not terribly intense, but coming off of the switching phase, it seems like the perfect set/rep schema to push you hard without breaking you.
You know, Friday and Saturday were the two days I looked forward to the most. It always took me about 3 sets to get loose on Saturday, but I always felt really good after the session.
I am doing M/W/Sa. I will be going in to bang out the last session of the week in about an hour. Since my gym closes at 8, I don’t have the time to have a “relaxing” squat session. I usually don’t get in the gym till 6:45pm, and with stretching and warm-up sets, I only have 40minutes or so to hit all of my sets. Plus, that is the way the program was written and I have to think that they knew what they were doing.
There are also some differences in programming. Joe Skopec writes set/reps in reverse, so I flipped it for comparison. I just used 100lbs as a max to see what the percentages looked like. Take a look:
Ontario Strongman (OS)
Dragon Door (DD)
Joe Skopec (JS)
So Ontario Strongman, and Dragon Door seem to agree on everything except the final workout, while Joe Skopec is different from the others except it agrees with Dragon Door on the final workout, but not the other days. Confused at all?

Don’t forget stronglifts. Theirs is in line with Ontario and Dragon Door. Also, Kfraftsno is another (has to be translated), but it seems like Skopec is the outsider, as far as the schema goes. I have yet to find 2 that match on the last week, be in conjuction on the last week. So, I’m not sure where I will go on that one.

Haha. I just read the jibberish that I wrote. My only excuse is that I was in between sets when I wrote it! What I meant to say was on the 5th week, none of them coincide. The prep for the max test is pretty open as to how one wants to do it. On the 4th week, stonglifts match Dragon Door and Skopec.
I personally don’t see the purpose behind the huge difference in the last workout. That one, in my opinion is the “bloody nose” session.
On a side note: that was an awesome 10x3 session you posted.
