Dealing with Self-Centered Meatheads

I can understand if they are using a bench for something stupid that they could do anywhere else in the gym kind of like squats in the curl rack. But if 3 guys are using it to bench you just gotta wait it sucks but that’s the way it is.

Were you actually like that, or did you just think it at him really hard?

You don’t tell them to get off, you ask to work in.

It’s sharing man. You’re not saying “This is mine now, no one else can use it until I’m done”, you’re asking “Can I use that piece of equipment to?”

You gotta keep in mind, you all paid to use the same equipment. You’re all equally entitled to it. That means that, when multiple people want to use it, you just gotta share it.

I’ve worked in with groups before with no issue, and let groups work in with me as well. It used to just be a thing you did when you went to a gym. As our culture has grown increasingly passive aggressive while our interpersonal skills have rapidly diminished, the notion has essentially vanished.
Hmmm I interpreted the wording in the OP as a request to work in. I guess I thought wrong.

Looks good to me.

I wanna let you know that I’m a very social person and I share equipments all the time as well as offer my help if I see someone struggling with their reps. I’ve worked out in groups a lot and I never had a problem with it. the only reason I posted about it was because it’s the first time that I see someone pissed off for having to share the bench. oh and I used 10 minutes figuratively speaking. I know I waited much longer.

I did at first as well.

I work out at a gym with relatively limited equipment, sometimes i need a piece of equipment for 2 or 3 different exercises in a row. As long as im not leaving my towel on it so no one else can use it while i walk away for 20 minutes, i dont see what the problem is. You cant fault the guys if they were actually working the whole time.

Besides, it could have been 3 guys working out together taking up 3 different benches, instead of just using the one.
I can’t believe how stupid I am for not mentioning this!!! yes, they left their towels intentionally so no one can use it.

no, it was me thinking of that. I’m usually never a rude person and I would never say that out loud

I just take towels/water bottles off equipment these days, haha. I’ve never been hassled about it, as I find most people abandoned their gear long ago, or are just using equipment as a resting place.

I did this with a guy who was using the squat rack who left the pad and weights on. He had been out of the rack for about 5 min and was all over the gym doing other stuff. I went up to the rack took of the pad and the weights and he practically sprinted over telling me he was still using it. I’m just glad all be back home on the East coast in about 2 months lifting in my cousins garage where we have put together a pretty decent gym plenty of weight and even a prowler.

You don’t think it’s rude to talk about people behind their backs?

This is simply being confrontational, which isn’t a bad thing necessarily. It’s how communication happens, and could be helpful in resolving miscommunications.

I find that’s a perfect segue into “Mind if I work in while you’re on other equipment?”

Because they’ll feel like a dick if they say no, haha.

I was going to ask and I even waited to see if he would come back but he didn’t and then when he did I just tried to be polite and say take your time I can do something else while I wait.

Step 1: get as big as Kirk Karwoski

Step 2: relay the following message to anyone on the bench, “You’ve got five minutes to get off my bench. Five minutes. After that if you’re still here there’s gonna be a 45 coming at your head.”

Not what I’d do personally, but it sure as hell worked for Captain Kirk.

at least you could’ve done something else, my remaining and last exercises in the routine were dumbbell pullovers and dumbbell flies and I needed the bench to perform them. I had already finished the biceps workout so I had no choice but to wait.

and as strong… don’t forget that.

Good call.

Dude either grow up or grow a pair.

This is why I have my own Gym. I used to burn up all my energy worrying about what everybody else was doing. Get a rack- a bench-a platform for deads and chalk and forgettaaaaabouttiit!!!

You are cute. bout time you changed your avi to a pic of you

your dinner looks yum, well except for the cauliflower those always make me gag a little. But I’d eat it. Just for you.
What?? The cauliflower is the third best part: 1. Steak, 2. Asparagus, 3. Cauliflower, and then 4. Broccoli, because you’re not allowed to JUST eat steak and cauliflower.

Thanks for the compliment- I do pics along and along but only briefly. Expect the cat back in a day or so. Usually something prompts me to post one (someone implies I wouldn’t hold the views I do if I weren’t so fat and ugly, for instance). Not sure what motivated this one; just a change of pace I guess.
