I make a point of controlling the movement when deadlifting in the eccentric portion as well as the concentric. If I do it in one exercise why shouldnt I do it in another? This leads to some pretty ‘good’ DOMS. Hammies are feeling pretty good from mondays session.
I just never felt the emotion for squatting that I do for deads. I go ass-to-grass whenever I do them but I just dont like them. I’ve recently switched to doing heavy leg-presses and deads alternately. I just dont think I’m built for squats (6’1"). And even if I am … I still dont like doing them.
All hail the deadlift. And it sounds cool too … “I’m off to DEAD LIFT”.
“I’m of to squat” just sounds like I’m about to take a shit.

Have you tried Olympic style front squat? I find these more enjoyable (I too used to be a deadlift not liking squat guy due to ease with high - 6’5").
Or Low bar style squats, Im 5’10" with a short torso and 75" wingspan, classic pulling build, but low bar squats are awesome. Maybe I am just weird, but I think they are the most natural feeling way to squat.
compare breaking your one rep max on dead lift and squat
which one makes you think you can ravage the world into submission?
my moneys on deadlift…its barbaric and awesome
but i think the better lift is which ever one your worst at…

Me and my father have argued about this since we started lifting it seems. Which is the better exercise? They are both obviously great and the Kings of all exercise,s but which is #1??? I know they are both very versatile and have many forms, but one has to be better for some reason right?
I do them both of course, and I’m a hell of a lot better at dead lifting then I am at squatting.
u must be tall, over 6’???
Nope. I have fucked up hips and a barnyard back.
So my back makes me deadlift a lot and my legs are HUGE but my hips just suck. and i had a no squat lay off while bringing the deadlift up. i didnt start deadlifting till like a year ago.
andon top of THAT i had a 6"1 workout partner who i tried to keep up with on the deadlift.

I would guess squats. Why would Starting Strength require you to squat 3x a week rather than deadlift that many times? Probably because you get more growth out of squats.
You know, that or the fact that DL’s put more strain on more muscle groups, and the CNS takes longer to recover from a hard DL day than a squat day.
