speed rope, 3 rounds, Muay thai kicks.

The rope I am driving up intensity with, the problem is my toes caught a lot, but that is partly because my laces got in the way, sort of stupid.

Kicks I didn’t drive too hard on, I am static in progress I think.

bag drill, only 2 rounds. I was up ridiculously late last night at a show, had only 6 hours sleep the night before and guzzled coffee for it all. The show was great, I just knew my bag drill would be affected. I was plodding, barely shuffling around and my hands were not in high guard as they should have been, forget bobbing my head.

What I was really looking for was hand speed, good torso twist with hind heel pivot for cross jabbing. Also shifting weight onto the hind foot and going up on my fore foot toes with torso twist for hooks. I think I did reasonably well with this, but i am hesitant to post the video because I don’t want a casual observer to think, “wow, this guy bites the dust”.

Hoping you don’t take this the wrong way and I am by no means a expert but you need to relax when boxing. There is no perfect way and you are tring to box by the numbers. You are very mechanical in your form and do each step of the motion separately instead of together. Boxing is like dancing it must flow.

Watch you videos and then any video on YouTube the difference is you seem to be counting out the procedure 1,2,3,4 instead of just Leting it flow… My two cents for what it is worth…

Yes, thanks, feedback is better than none. I will put more thought to this.

Still, for the short term, does anyone think I smack the bag around? In the sense of do I give it a good pounding?

I think my point is to think less about it and just move more… you have to step in and punch at the same time…

dips body + 70lbs X 3 X 2 fail stopped
upright rows 135lbs X 3

stopped. I actually have a good energy level today, but I am wondering if a 70lb load causes my walker to wobble to much when dipping. I am not just anytime soon running out to buy a better one. Still, I never have gotten a full 5 sets of 3 with this weight when doing a similar program July last year, so I am wondering if maybe I need to take a week off before overtraining forces me. I have been going at this for something like 6 weeks so it makes sense.

Also, I keep forgetting to take creatine, and I would rather start fresh after time off rather than mess around scatter shot with it.

I wonder how much time I should take off. My muscles don’t feel ‘worked’ as after a good exertion, and I am obviously not doing bag work this coming week (I can still go through combination movements without out much force and watch in a side mirror), so I might go at it again this very next Friday and my rest purpose I hope will be accomplished. then I can see how I do with 70lbs belted to me.

I just watched a few videos on youtube as Damutt suggested. There is an emphasis on what I have so far seen on relaxing and fluidity of motion.

Does anyone think I am aiming for too much of power shots with every punch? I am noticing that many video subjects don’t totally rattle the bag all the time, just when there is instruction to do power shots. these are thrown only so fast in combination.

Still, for the shorter term for the sake of my own confidence in where I stand, do I seem to knock the bag around a lot? This of course I will adjust as per above, I just want to know.

they are actually beige and have maybe faded due to washing over time. I agree white pants don’t belong on a man, they were a worn out pair I cut down for inside reasons. Right, I am posting these videos on the world wide web, I will make regular use of my black pair, it is getting out of the time of year to wear them outside.

Oh, and more to the point, thanks for your attempt at setting me on course. I will research by youtube or google routines on shadowboxing and when I finish my week off I will incorporate your thoughts into my technique.

Deadlift 375lbs X 1 355lbs X 3 X 3

So, i came back after a week off, starting on day 2, and decided not to crack too heavily into 375lbs after the first rep. the rest was a rehash of last lifting day, and although I only attempted the 375lbs once, I am happy that it is the heaviest I have gone since my original hamstring strain. Chalk it up to first day back, I expect to drive through 375lbs next week.

Oh, and creatine. I am definitely today going to start a new cycle with it. 20grams a day first week, then the next 4 weeks at 10g a day, and finally 3 weeks off. I am a heavy coffee drinker, even though I have cut down a bit, and will load later today.

Edit: Interesting, after I woke up this morning, I decently dealt my daily deuce twice. After lifting, I shit again that was partially diahrrea. I don’t get the sense I am sick, although I know something is going around in my area, and wonder if maybe the abdominally stabilization has anything to do with it.

Monday, October 15, 2012 cycle 2 week 1 day 3

shadow boxing 2 3 minute rounds
heavy bag drill 2 3 minute rounds
shadow boxing 1 round

I feel the effects of last week off, and I am not in the kilter of what Irish recommended, so no point posting the videos.

something occured to me, Might I shadow box with let’s say 5lbs dumbbell bars in my hands? Might this build speed in my hands?

Tuesday, October 16, 2012 cycle 2 week 1 day 4

speed rope 3 3 minute rounds
shadow boxing 2 3 minute rounds

I actually am happy with rope, even though the rope caught on my toes several times. I am getting more intense with the alternating each foot each skip routine and therefore call it progress. My shadow boxing has yet to look anything like Irish.

Wednesday, October 17, 2012 cycle 2 week 1, day 6

shadow boxing 2 3 minute rounds
bag drill 2 3minute rounds

Bb bicep curls, 65lbs X 10 X 10 X 5 fail

I am very displeased with today. I reviewed Irish’s post, but I seemed to do just the same old thing. Maybe I am just having a lethargic day, I did a lot of walking earlier and maybe I just didn’t notice what it took out of me, maybe.

My fists were ridiculously slow, I didn’t get my range right, even though I was trying to be conscious of it and I was poor getting my hands back into guard.
Not worth posting the videos.

Edit: It just occurred to me to say that I maybe went low on protein yesterday, just experimenting and that may be part of it.

Friday, October 19, 2012 cycle 2 week 1 Day 1

dips body (205lbs) + 70lb X 3 + 60lbs X 3 X 3 X 3 X 1
upright rows 115lbs X 3 135lbs X 3 X 3 X 3 X 2 X 2

chinups body X 4 X 3
DB incline press 2 X 75lbs X 3 X 3

twist situps Body + 10lbs X left elbow, right knee 5, RL 5 X 5,5 X 4,4 X 2,2

First day back at this so I grant a little readjustment. with dips, I thought to at least try 70lb, but reality caught up.

With inclines, I flubbed getting the dbs in place the 3rd set, so capped it at that.

My goal is to reach full quorum with dips at 80lbs belted, and then see where I want to go.

Seems that irish may be right, a few sessions in a boxing gym could help enormously. You’ve got a hell of mix with the boxing and lifting.

thanks for the feedback, i don’t know when I will be able to organize it though. By hell of a mix, are you saying that I am doing to much lifting for the amount of other stuff I do? Irish himself has a lifting boxing mix, and I thought when I started viewing his journal I am not too far off.

deadllift 375lbs X 2

So, I am not anywhere near my eventual target with this. Friday night I got a poor sleep, gorged on coffee Saturday to stay up for a show, felt dead Sunday (but not lift), and tried to get on track yesterday. I was pooped enough I was lazy with grocery shopping and relied heavily on a frozen pizza. Bad choice. Then I got through the warmup but only got one lift at 375lbs. Today I repeated the entire warmup and only got 2 at that weight, so fuck it I will hold off until next Sunday to take my next crack at it.

Still, it is the greatest hamstring related lift since my original strain several years ago.

Shadow boxing 2 rounds
bag work 2 rounds
shadow boxing 2 rounds

Lately i have been totally tired with stuff and my training is totally off kilter. I did boxing today because I think I am returning to my regular level. I didn’t post the videos because I knew I would be rough, but from what I could tell I summarize as such. I am a bit better at bringing my hands back into position. I am trying to be better with range, but my bag swings around and I am all over the place. I am getting slightly better speed, but at the end I don’t feel a lactic burn and I didn’t loosen the screw that holds the bag, so I doubt I am hitting it as hard.

Yesterday I did speed rope, but I am not at an intensity that is satisfactory.

I think mixing the boxing with the lifting is a good cross over. I have done MMA training with lifting and find they compliment each other in raising conditioning.
