i’ve been wondering. how do climbers like him get down once they have reached the top? do they climb down? i imagine that’s even more dangerous than climbing up since you can’t grab on to stuff using your feet. unless you were to climb down, upside down. where’s that video? haha

You usually just take a trail back down. On Half Dome there in Yosemite where he is clambering there is a descent trail about 20 yards from the top out.
Otherwise, you can scrabble back down on an easier route, like a 4th class, if there is not a trail. Also you can pack a harness and rope to rappel back down.

I’ve also seen some of the crazier ones wear a base jumping rig and just jump when they get to the top.

She was found in Carlsbad, CA yesterday and her dad is flying out to see her.
And yes, I totally choked up while watching.
Thanks, Pang! This news made my day!
I saw it a few days ago and also got choked up. Wonder if she called him or someone spotted her.
News here said she got pulled over by the cops
Wonder if they were looking for the car? I hope she lets her dad help her do whatever she meant to do by running away.
Call me callous, but that little montage didn’t do it for me. Now, if it was one of those deals where he used note cards to say goodbye because he only had a couple months to live, then yes, I’d get all lumpy in the throat. Without a good backstory, for all we know she ran away because stripping in Vegas fuels her meth habit better than being a Wal-Mart cashier. Or, her rural village just couldn’t accommodate her crossfit dreams. Who knows?

Yeah I didn’t get that choked up about it either.
It sucks man. There’s always an element to these things that make me think it’s fake.
Like that whole Colorado Balloon Boy thing, shit like that has jaded me, so my heart doesn’t go out to situations like that as much as it could

Interesting phenomenon.
I mean some people won’t get choked up because it’s possibly FAKE, but they’ll watch any movie with a sad but fictitious (fake) story, and end up a blubbering mess.

Because you know going in that it’s a story.
The internet, especially as it pertains to social media and sites like Youtube all have this little coating of doo-doo dust on it. Murks it up, doesn’t hit the emotional chords as hard as it could.
That’s the way it is with me anyway.
Like, as an example. The Iron Giant. The end of that movie made me all sorts of blubbery.
Watch it on youtube? Just doesn’t hit me the same. It’s a snippet, not a journey, and my emotions don’t have the opportunity to spread out and take hold.
