Camp Overview:
Instructors: Was disappointed at first as Jocko didn’t make an appearance this year. He was filming Way of Warrior Kid. We had some incredible names attend tho. There’s always the known folks: Liborio (Coral Belt), Dedeco (sick and didn’t attend), Dean Lister (one of coolest guys), Echo Charles, Alecksy, Formiga, Midgetsu, Birdman, etc.
We also had guest appearances from: Tim Kennedy (I rolled with him), Wander Braga and Buchecha
The teachings and instructors were top notch. Everyone is separate by belt and has their own mats. Each instructor is incredibly helpful, walks around to answer questions and stays afterwards to roll, take photos and answer questions.
My favorites were Tim, EC and Buchecha. I was able to roll with both Tim and EC. Buchechas style and instruction was really cool to watch and listen to. He taught sweeps from DLR, with his mindset as opponents react.
Food: The food is really good. Far better than expected for a camp. I didn’t skip any meal because it didn’t look good, and I’m picky af. We had the classic ‘lobster fest’, but it was paired with Colorado beef and oysters. I ate 3 Lobsters and over 2lbs of beef, with 4 oysters. There are iced containers everywhere around the camp with Jocko Gos, Molk and hydrates. All free. I had 55 Molks while I was there. Essentially averaged 10 a day. One guy had 101. Also, every night they laid out a sandwich spread with cookies or brownies. My group all had at least 4 sandwiches at night (11p-1a).
Schedule: The schedule was super easy. Essentially 4.5 hours of instruction time a day, with open mats for rolling/drilling after each instruction. Morning was Gi (10-1130), Afternoon NoGi (3-430) and evening Gi (7-830). My day typically looked like this:
Wakeup - 745
Breakfast - 830
Gi - 10
Lunch - noon
Ice Bath and Lake 1245
Stretch 3
NoGi 330
Dinner 6
Gi 7
Open Mat at open air mat 9-11
Late night Sammies 11-1a
I can’t tell you how much food I ate. I was probably at 7-9,000 calories a day. The daily Molk alone was 300P and 1900 calories.
I also averaged 10 rounds a day. On Wednesday, it’s an off day for factory tours and relaxing. I did some relaxing, but spent 6 hours on the mats drilling and doing rounds. Ended the day with 22 rounds, some of which were 12 minutes.
Beds: they suck. Just get used to it. I brought an air mattress and did just fine. First night was rough, because my feet had to cantilever over the bed cap. The next day I found a screwdriver and took it off, so my feet could stretch out.
Misc: They clean you gi every day which is great. I brought enough rash guards for the week and just used daily laundry bag for dirty clothes. You really don’t need much for clothes. I wore shorts, but swapped out for swim trunks and a t-shirt every day in between.
They set up an origin store by the lake with discounts. Each day things become increasingly cheaper. I waited until Thursday to buy things and got 2 GIs for $50. On Friday, all pants were $25 and heavy sweatshirts were $30. Original pricing for those are $129 and 180. The risk is that they won’t have your size… but I’m a big dude, so no concern. I also picked up the camp rashgaurd for $16 on final day vs. $60. Pays to be an XL or XXL.
A lot of people filmed every session, I just took it in. At end of camp, they set up a google drive for people to put their videos in… Just a quick download and I have White belt through Black belt instructions.
There’s a ton more, feel free to ask away.
