Dchris's Grappling with Age

Yup, those were the Livespill days with the introduction of Indigo-3G and eventually the Indigo Project. That was a blast!

Great timing then! That weight gain is strange btw! Have you been low carb prior?

I meant to post that fisrt post on the Surge thread but realised i was still on your log.

Not at all, actually. Weight has been 229-231 last two weeks. I haven’t taken creatine in a few years, can’t remember if that’s in Surge Workout Fuel? My calories have been between 2,500 and 2,800, which now I’m just shy of 4,000.

Wife surprised me this morning with dinner plans and baby sitter tonight. I’m finishing a work event week, so can’t get off early to workout. Naturally, I can’t just say ‘sorry honey, have to hit the gym tonight’… so, I’ll get after it tomorrow.

Surge workout #3. I’ll post workout in morning. Got to gym around 930 and too tired to type. The pump was almost as good as the lighting.

6/21
Had to take two days off after 6/18 workout, then caught a flight back to Oregon and didn’t get home until 1:30am (PDT), 3:30am CDT, and fell asleep after 2am (4am in my head). Then, had to get up and get to work early.

Pump

Stimulate
Darden Pullover 8x50lbs
Flutter

Flutter
OH Tricep Ext 20 secs with 40lbs

Forearms and Calves after.

Couple of notes/Thoughts:

  • I haven’t had a bad workout while using Surge
  • The pump is great every workout
  • I had no business doing that Chest/leg workout on 6/18. I felt so depleted afterwards and next morning.
  • Yesterday’s workout was dumb. I didn’t eat well, was way too tired and had no motivation. After the first Tricep exercise I felt the pump and was zoned in.
  • Might be too early to say, but based on above, I likely won’t workout again without Surge. If it does nothing beyond making every workout productive and able to get a good pump it’s beyond worth it. I’m too old and busy to push through like I did 10 years ago.

How are you feeling about overall back development on this style of training? Are you seeing the progress you were hoping to?

It might be too early to tell, I’m 5 workouts in. Back was the area I initially was concerned wouldn’t be enough volume or movements to target the whole back. I trust Darden to put together a complete program, and honestly, my back has felt pretty full. My lat pump has been better than anything I’ve experienced. I’ll likely repeat this training for 2 cycles and assess the movement selection and possibly change out pullovers with another back movement.

Workout #5 was brutal. I’m at my home gym this week (which is my AirBnB house) so don’t have access to leg press. Instead to Zercher Squats.

Pump

WG Curl 8x65lbs
Stimulate
DB Zott Curl 10x25
Hammer Curl 10x25
DB Curl 10x15
Flutter
DB Curl AMRAPx15lbs

Combination of legs and chest was incredibly difficult. I threw up in my mouth after doing the legs. The short rest and holding the position was unlike my normal rests and lazy lifting. haha. My 4y/o woke me up around 2am and I stood up and nearly fell, my legs were weak and sore.

Yep. I have found it’s challenging to find that correct weight, because if you miss it too light the workouts are not challenging enough. But adding even a small amount too much (which still seems light compared to typical workouts for many of us) means throwing up in your mouth. Luckily I haven’t done that. Today I swapped out the thighs and calves block for olympic lifting and front squats, and did the chest/ shoulders block as prescribed. I liked that approach.

It’ll be fun to play with this type of training when challenge is done. I’ve never done anything like this and it has my head spinning with ideas. Hang Cleans are something I really like doing and might incorporate.

A little behind. Missing logging my favorite workout bis/tris/lats/forearms. Such a good pump.

Was supposed to do workout 8 yesterday, but will have to do it tomorrow. Yesterday and today have been terrible on my allergies. Headaches, plugged ears, congested and burning eyes. Essentially, can’t hear, see, breathe or smell well.

Hey Chris, looking forward to seeing your results on the program. It looks like you’re no less of a busy man than when I was caught up on your logs 1+yr(s) ago, but still finding a way to get the work in. I hope all is well!

haha I might be lying to myself when I say my life is getting simpler. My job is much simpler, max of 45 hours a week and work from home.

We should be finalizing adoption of our three kids this year, which will allow us to put my previous state in the rear-view mirror. Until then, I have to fly back every other month. Although, I have go back next month now to testify in a trial. Somehow I’ve maintained my ‘looks like he lifts while wearing a shirt’ physique. I’m in a good rhythm now and hope to look good shirtless, especially with out much time I’m spending at the pool.

7/5 - Alright, feeling much better. About 7 days of intense allergies. First time my eyes don’t burn and ears aren’t completely useless with pressure.

On 7/1 I did the arms/lats/forearms workout and felt incredible. I’ll get to workout 8 tonight and back in routine. I’ve been drinking Surge throughout and ready to get after it again. Also happy to see more workouts dropped. I’m going to keep this going as long as I there are workouts dropping.

Also sipped on Surge (1.8L) and a flavored water mix (1.8L).

Today will mostly be the same, except have a meeting from 5:30-6:00pm today. Then will go to gym around 8:30pm for Lats, Bis, Tris and Chest… not sure there is a better ego workout.
